PARTNERS IN CRIME Bloody Scotland is an independent charity, established in 2012 to present the very best of Scottish and international crime writing. We rely on a combination of sponsorship, grants, box office and donations to support our activity. Our Partners in Crime Patron Scheme launched by leading Scottish crime writer Alanna Knight, allows our supporters to donate to the festival and help us continue to support the work of Scottish crime writers.

FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS This year, our fifth festival, we are proud to welcome some of crime fiction’s biggest and best-loved names to Bloody Scotland. We kick off in style with an opening bill of Stuart MacBride and Caro Ramsay and the big names just keep on coming from there. Nicci French, Mark Billingham and Ian Rankin are appearing along with Val McDermid, MC Beaton and Martina Cole. Peter Robinson, Chris Brookmyre, Stuart Neville and Yrsa Sigurðardóttir also feature in a star-studded programme with authors from ten different countries. We have panels on forensics, soil science and witness identification; a play; a quiz; and the renewal of the Scotland-England crime writers football match.

As a Social Enterprise, with a strong ethical focus, Bookdonors is delighted to be able to support the excellent work of Bloody Scotland. We wholeheartedly endorse their initiatives to widen public access, and to support emerging and established authors alike. Bookdonors trades on-line in used books for the benefit of people, charities and the environment with 100% of sales used to fulfil our social missions. Each month we collect over 600,000 used books from Charity Shops across Scotland. Reusing these books means each year we divert over 2,000 tonnes of books from landfill. In turn that allows us to employ 32 people, many of whom might otherwise be excluded from the job market.

We hope you enjoy the free books we are distributing. If, however, you have already read the book, please come to our stand and we will gladly swap it for any title that takes your fancy. Whilst you are there we encourage you to speak to some of our staff that are assisting at the festival this weekend, to hear their individual stories too. Tom Murdoch-Kenny, Managing Director, Bookdonors CIC
