Fun, food and fireworks Lights over Marlborough is the annual Whitney Street School fireworks display held in November each year at Marlborough’s A&P Showgrounds, and is the school’s major fundraiser for the year. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, November 14. Gates at the A&P Showgrounds open at 6pm with food and entertainment, as well as live music preceeding the headlining fireworks display. Organisers encourage families to come along early and enjoy the pre-fireworks food and atmosphere. There will be plenty for families to eat, see and do on the night, including a silent auction with a huge range of fantastic prizes. Simply bring along the family, a cosy blanket to sit on to enjoy the fireworks as well as something warm to wear…just in case.
Should the event be cancelled due to weather the postponement date is the following day (Sunday 15 November). Entry is $8 for over 5’s, under 5’s are free, a family pass is $35 for a family of 5. ENTERTAINMENT: Atom Flight (MBC’s Rock Quest Winners), Phoebe Leov & Thornton Church, Street Dance Federation Pasifika, Whitney Street School’s Kapahaka and Ukelele Groups. STALLS: Hotdogs & Chips, Mini Donuts, Drinks, American Hotdogs, BBQ, Coffee & Hot Chocolate, Glowsticks. Mystery Bottle, Chocolate Wheel, Year 6 Stall with face painting, Pony Rides for the little children , A Mini Train for under 5’s, Laser Tag, Bouncy Castles, Zorbe Balls, Candyfloss & Popcorn. If there is no human present to look after the animals, it is even more important to leave the radio or television on for them. Make sure your dog or cat has a collar on with up to date contact details (or better yet, get your pet microchipped) just in case they get out and are panicked by the fireworks.

Tips for animals Please remember to make sure your pets are safe on Saturday, November 14. The fireworks are pretty spectacular however they can spook animals so to help keep them calm here are some tips. If you have any health related concerns speak to your veterinarian. Make sure your pets are indoors throughout the evening and that they can’t see or hear the fireworks. Exterior doors and windows should be secured to prevent your pets escaping and running away in terror. Interior doors and curtains/blinds should be closed as this will help
