GM REPORT
CLUB UPDATE
MARK HENNELLY / GENERAL MANAGER Forty years of existence have now passed and we move to the future of our Club. It was very rewarding to celebrate the centenary of the Football Club as well as the Leagues Club’s milestone recently with the successful dinner and the promotions within the Leagues Club. As I have stated previously we owe a huge debt to those who went before us and it is difficult to single any person or group out for special mention. However, our Club has been fortunate through the generations to have committed volunteers who have always been focused on the continued growth and development of Brothers. The current committees also maintain that similar focus and continue to grow Brothers. The Club trading year will be concluded by the time this is published but I assure all members that this current year has been a very strong trading year for Brothers Leagues Club. Results will confirm a very healthy nett result with continued debt reduction achieved. We cannot forget the major accomplishment of the year was the opening and use of Brother Ted Magee Playing Fields. The additional fields will be well used in 2015 when St Peter Claver
College host the Confraternity Carnival at Brothers and I recommend that all of our members who enjoy Rugby League come along and watch some games. Planning, budgeting, forecasting and strategic planning are some of the tools that are utilised by the Board and Management to oversee the conducting of the business of Brothers Leagues Club and once again all of these and more activities will again be high on the agenda for the coming year. The budget will focus on servicing the clubs debt and at the same time attending to some minor capital projects for the benefit of Rugby League and of course our members. We are hopeful that advances will be made with the development of the Ripley Valley. I take this opportunity to thank all of our members who continue to support the Club making it the enjoyable meeting place for many. Without your continued support we would not be able to support Rugby League and the other Kindred Clubs of Brothers See you at the Club! Mark
BOARD REPORT /05 FROM THE BOARD GREG WALSH / CHAIRMAN
What an incredible year it has been at Brothers with both the 100 year celebrations of the Football Club and 40 year celebrations of the Leagues Club now winding up. Elsewhere in this edition of the Bulletin you will find some photos of the official dinner that was held on August 15. It was an occasion to relive some of the highlights of our proud history and a chance to catch up with some friends we haven’t seen in years. Needless to say it was a night to remember! With our financial year now officially over, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank my colleagues on the Board for their efforts over the past 12 months in what has been a very successful year. Their dedication and commitment to Brothers is a big reason why the Club not only survives but thrives. The AGM will be coming up very soon and I hope all the members of the Board are able to continue their involvement for another year to share in what looks certain to be exciting times ahead. I’d also like to thank the staff and management team of Brothers. In particular, I’d like to pay tribute to the General Manager, Mark Hennelly who has been with the club throughout the difficult periods and steered us to the position of strength we enjoy today.
That’s not to say there aren’t still challenges ahead of us. This is a highly competitive industry and we all know a large part of our community is doing it tough at the moment. We are certainly not immune from economic pressures and will have to remain vigilant to ensure we continue to move forward. However, I am absolutely confident we have the team to do the job. Finally, I’d like to thank you, the members. Your support over the years is what has built this Club over its 40 year history from an idea to what you see today. There have been many changes over the journey, some popular, some perhaps not so. But through it all you have ridden the bumps with us and share in all our achievements. The establishment we all enjoy today is the envy of Ipswich and surrounding area. The contribution we make to the local community is second to none. You should be deservedly proud. Looking back over our history this year has been nostalgic and fun. But I, for one, can’t wait for tomorrow. See you at the club! Greg

Yes, a few of the boys have previously played together in other projects, but the group as a whole was called together specifically for this.

The winning team was made up of Ted Lyons (skip) who was supported by our two Life Members in Jean Bell and Les Gaedtke. Brothers Hello golferS! The year has been going well for the golf club. We’ve just played the first round of the championships. We’ve had 5 or 6 local games and 2 trips so far, with 3 to go, to resort style courses. There are 4 bus trips planned before years end so if you’re keen to join us, you should keep a close eye on the notice board for upcoming events. Due to printing deadlines, it is difficult to promote
impending games, so check the board in the Sportsman’s Bar and put your name on the sheet if you’re interested in joining us. A reminder that membership is now due and that our membership remains at $10 with the only prerequisite that you are a member of the leagues club. For any further information please call Don on 0439 725 313.

Brothers CRICKET The new Brothers Cricket Club Committee has started the year off on a very positive step appointing a new Coach, Nev Paulsen and reappointing Luke Dixon as the Club Captain for Season 2014-15. The new Committee is: President Brent Kinnane Vice President Mal Nienhaus Secretary Craig Mackay Treasurer Elessa Lewis Junior Coordinator Shaun Madson Fund Raising Coordinator James Millis Web Site Administrator Daniel Goss Pre season training is done and dusted and the first senior games were held in the last week of September. At the time of writing this report the outcomes were not known. The new preseason training regime under the new coach had a few of the older guys wondering if they were past their prime. All the sessions were hard work but enjoyable. A key focus is on skill development as we take a longer term view on improving the skills of all players, junior and senior, across the club. Junior Training has commenced on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and the in2Cricket program commences on the 17th of October for the 6-8 year olds who are aspiring to be the future of the club. Brothers Cricket continues to supply a number of players into Ipswich Brisbane Grade Team, the Ipswich Hornets. This pathway is the future for our club cricketers who could end up playing in First
Division in Brisbane which is only one step away from the Brisbane Heat or the Queensland Bulls. A new website was also launched during the cricket off season. All the match details can be found there along with the top run scorers and wicket takers for the club. The website is http://brothersipswich.qld.cricket.com.au The new season has also seen some new sponsors as well as the re-signing of some of our greatest supporters. Special thanks to Brothers Leagues Club and GJ Walsh and Co who are back on board this year. Both organisations have been supporters of the club for more than a decade and their support is greatly appreciated. Better Buy Meats Yamanto is also with us again this year as a Gold Sponsor and their generous support has helped us supply training shirts right across the whole club. Also Brothers Old Boys continue to support the club. The club welcomes some of its newest sponsors in DIGGIT Plant Hire who is sponsoring the First Division one day team and Walker Pender Lawyers who have come on board as a Silver Sponsor. The Club has commenced a new signage package in its sponsorship arrangements in 2014-15 with signage space available on the cricket nets for supporters of the club. Capral Aluminium is our first sponsor to sign up to a signage package and we welcome them to the Brothers fold for the next three years and beyond. Good luck to all the cricket teams this year as we look forward to a summer full of Brothers runs and only opposition wickets.

Joke for Frank
Who says men don’t remember? A couple were Christmas shopping. The shopping centre was packed and as the wife walked through one of the malls she was surprised when she looked around to find that her husband was nowhere to be seen.
In a quiet voice he said, “Do you remember the jewellers we went into about five years ago where you fell in love with that diamond necklace that we couldn’t afford, and I told you that I would get it for you one day?”
She was quite upset because they had a lot to do and hence, she became so worried that she called him on her mobile phone to ask him where he was.
The wife choked up and started to cry and said, “Yes, I do remember that shop.”
The Hardest Working Card in Town Have you renewed yet? Don’t forget that memberships expire at the end of September.
He replied, “Well, I’m in the pub next door.”
