It is getting more and more common that people experience slips and falls down the stairs. Particularly when it comes to elderly and children, using additional stair treads are quite important to make those staircases safe. Stair treads are truly a great invention that help everyone maintain their balance better on slippery stairs. Basically losing your footing is a thing of the past now as you are much better able to control yourself and simply don't fall. Your feet get extra grips that will keep you safe and protect you from tumbling down the stairs. One of the most commonly used ones (and more expensive than other types) are those made of wood. They are basically wooden pieces that are on top of the steps of any staircase that keeps one from falling down. Most of these stairtreads made of wood have an area that extends a little across the edge, giving you additional safety and security when walking up and down the steps. They basically make the steps wider so they give a person a much better footing. Also the wooden ones really look great and can improve the appearance of any home, increasing its property value. If you have guests in your home, they will simply love going up and down the stairs when they see and feel these stair-treads under their feet. There are many other types available, and each of them has a particular purpose in mind. While some are really great looking, like the braided ones, there are others that focus on safety and security outdoors and in industrial areas. Those are made of vinyl or rubber and prettiness is definitely not in their set of benefits. However they do get the job done well. When installing them at home you need to make sure that the job is properly done so they don't come undone or unglued later on. They should increase safety, not endanger it.

Braided stair treads are another beautiful type that focuses on aesthetics at home. However if you are more concerned about safety and security outside your home particularly when it's raining or snowing, or in wet kitchen and bathrooms, you are much better off with safety stair treads.
