Initially, before starting on any studios, I felt as though Alex Pardee would play a part in my studios, and even though he hasn’t played a huge part, he is the one artist who I think has guided me to create art the way I do. The Art that I create in my studios is a reflection of two specific themes that I’ve tried to incorporate in my art from the start of my studios. The first theme is a teenager sense of independent freedom, and the second is drug perception. For the independent freedom theme I used over and over again, this signature long squiggly on every studio. It was long, and represented a sort of chaotic view of how you can do as you please with freedom. What I wanted to do was let out a sort of “wild child” through my art and represent it as crazy twists and turns of the squiggly line moved. For my second theme I represented different drug perceptions through my art. I really wanted to help the viewer really see through the eyes of using each drug through research of the drugs. All in all I wanted to create something out of the norm that would really represent that independent freedom and drug perception. As the course has passed time I’ve changed my selected materials very much. I’ve used perma-color markers, acrylic paint, oil pastels, pencil, water color, color pencil, collage, assemblage, and crayons. At the end I really feel like my strongest suit is with acrylic paint and oil pastels. As for my techniques I tried to take a different start every time, but in the end my studios had a view about that that brought them together. As for my current work I’m still using my theme of drug perception. It’s perfect for me because I plan on studying psychology based off of drugs when I get to college. I’m going to stick with this theme because it’s where I feel strongest about and where I see myself working hardest on because it’s the most personal to me. Through this theme I begin to see a clearer sense of what people see when experimenting with different types of drugs through my art.
