The brief for the Kent Town headquarters of mobile-game developer Mighty Kingdom required the incorporation of a private and public program. In order for testing and exhibition to the public, a separate arcade area is used to contribute to the games development process as well as attract public interest and clients. By utilizing separate paths of public and private entry, public circulation is filtered through a central arcade. With private overlooking mezzanine, the arcade can be used by Mighty Kingdom developers to observe and foster public engagement. Consisting of a panoramic display system, the use of flipdot display panels can be used as a variable framework to augment reality and complement the mobility of handheld gaming. Circulation of public access is then directed throughout the headquarters, allowing guests to non-intrusively observe developer work flow. Using a steel grate shading system along this public walkway, passing guests are allowed a filtered view of the company workings below. These external walkway and balcony bordering the studio and meeting spaces then function as a gallery/exhibition space, allowing developers to gage feedback and guide the development process.

DESIGN INTENT Drawing inspiration from the temporary structures such as aqueducts, tipples, and scaffolding which once dominated the landscape of Burra, the unique vantages and natural trails of Hampton Village can be leveraged against existing site typography, using raised paths and buildings contrasting the built form of surviving ruins. Providing curated vignettes within the specialty program within the site as well as the surrounding context of Burra, the building channels the public through the site in order to forge connections between past and future, weaving between new manmade pathways and existing informal trails. By creating a variety of diverging direct and indirect entry points, users are confronted and able to choose between the diverging ramping steel paths of contemporary origin beside the existing natural "goat track" formations. Contrasting the grounded elements of existing masonry on site, the use of contemporary lighter built forms and structural scaffolding provide the medium through which a heritage artisan program of a blacksmith metalwork's can generate and expand upon the building form. Forged using distinctive metal patinas across commonplace industrial materials including metal offcuts, mesh, and scraps, artisans are able to apply their craft within insulated wall panels and filtering screens. p36 // Sustainable Program Diagram

[M_A_R_T] The use of augmented reality as an attraction and tool in the communication of past environments can be integral in the understanding of what little remains of Hampton Village. Although current augmented reality technologies are limited in portability and field of view, the Multi_Axis Augmented Reality Theatre [MART] can be used as an achievable and versatile case study on site. Bringing to light the past lives of numerous built structures, a generous viewing screen can be interacted with and manoeuvred to unearth a variety of past spaces.
