PERSPECTIVE Historical Lens

A brief look at Pioneer survey results By Lorene Keitch Lorene@columbiavalleypioneer.com

We launched a survey in the spring of this year to gather input on what matters to you, our readers. The survey is still open as we are hoping for more responses. The more we hear from you, the more we can make sure that every week’s edition reflects what our readers want to read about and see in the Pioneer’s pages! Peering into survey respondant’s views on the paper in general, and specific areas, has been fascinating. I have loved each and every response, from the ones that feel everything should stay as is, to those who wish to see broad, sweeping changes. Like anything in life, it is always good to take time to reflect on where we have been, where we are now, and where we should go next. This survey has been no different. Here, for your interest and inspiration, are some of the responses we have received so far when we asked the question, “What are we missing”: • Conscious contemplative musings / commentaries • More coverage of high school sports • More detail of council plans • Poetry • Wildlife reports • Travel pages • Stories in outlying communities • Historical recollections • Gardening / food • Personal growth • Youth section • Entertainment - puzzles / comics • In-depth parks coverage • Good Samaritan stories • More investigative journalism • Pet stories

These are just a sampling of the dozens of responses we have received so far. Do YOU like these ideas? Do you have others? We at the Columbia Valley Pioneer strive to reflect our community. But without your voice, what matters to you could get lost in the shuffle. Make your voice heard today, and fill out a survey. We will be tabulating all the responses and sharing some more feedback this fall. To fill out the survey, go here: https://surveyhero. com/c/ca6afa6d

Clarification In the bikepacking story of July 18th, a race called The Lost Elephant was referenced, which lists Brewer Creek as part of its route. This trail is in fact designated non-mechanized, which means no mountain bikes are allowed. For more information, visit http://www.sitesandtrailsbc.ca and search for ‘Brewer Creek’.

Pot of gold Local photographer Lisa Rohrick captured a double rainbow over a magical Lake Windermere recently. Anyone who lives in the Columbia Valley knows we’ve found the pot of gold by getting to live here! Photo by Lisa Rohrick
