Favourite music teacher

an Wardrope, Melanie Scarcella at Maple Ridge secondary and Rebekah Bell at Garibaldi secondary are the favourite music teachers. • Dan Wardrope holds his A.R.C.T. from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Canada and a L i c e n tia te d e gree from Trinity College in London, England. He is an active composer, producer, clinician, and instructor. His students have won many prestigious awards and scholarships and many have continued on to professional teaching careers. Other students have developed successful professional performing careers in music including a major record label signing with Virgin Records, another with EMI Records, a Juno Award, as well as many television and radio performances. He is also a member of the Royal Conservatory of Music College of Examiners. • Melanie Scarcella holds her Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Music Education from Memorial University of Newfoundland. She moved to British Columbia in 1997 to pursue graduate studies at the University of Victoria. She

has been teaching since 1997 and has had a plethora of experiences teaching music as a general music specialist,choral director and band teacher. She is known for her energy and enthusiasm and her passion to ignite her students to find the joy of making music in an ensemble setting. • R e b e k a h B e l l embraces chaos along with creativity. She inspires students to push themselves and enjoy the challenge. Bell is now in her fourth year at Garibaldi secondary, coming to Maple Ridge from Whitehorse, Yukon Territories. Her ability to inspire her students is clearly seen in the growth of the music program, which is about four times the size it was when she started. Rebekah also performs as a jazz vocalist, plays French horn with the Maple Ridge Concert Band and both leads and plays saxophone with Golden Ears Jazz. Bell’s mission to expand the music program at Garibaldi secondary and has been collecting donations for the music department because it has grown dramatically in the last four years and is in need of new equipment.
