Bronze for U18s A pair of Port Alberni fastpitch players have won bronze medals at the U18 girls’ western Canadian championships in lloydminster, AB after they were picked up by a Nanaimo team in need of players. The Nanaimo Breakers picked up Chelsea Charlesworth and Shellsea Steed to compete at this elite level of softball, said Alberni Valley Softball Association secretary Shannon Charlesworth. “The two brought impressive strength to the team’s defence and added offensive strength to the Nanaimo batting lineup.” Fifteen teams from Manitoba,

In Alberni Golf Club men’s club action on Sunday, the game of the day belonged to the duo of Craig Acland and Glen Trask. They each shot an impressive 73, which happens to be Trask’s age—great game, gentlemen. Acland won first low gross

by retrogression, followed by Colin Hamilton with 74. Trask took top honours in the net category with a 63, while second low net went to Clark Crowe, shooting a 66. Closest to the pin winners were Craig Acland on No. 2, Glen Trask on No. 4, Cliff O’laney on No. 13 and Terry Rai on No. 17. Taking home the cash for the charity closest to the pin on No. 7 was Terry Rai.
