Gilbert Etienne Brassard February 11, 1935 - December 22, 2014

With deep sadness, we make it known that Gilbert Brassard (Gil) died suddenly and painlessly at his home in Parksville, BC on the morning of December 22, 2014. Gilbert is survived by his dear wife, Dorothy (Lavoie) whom he deeply loved and cared for during their 57 years of marriage. Together they embarked on a great adventure leaving their small Saskatchewan farming community of Albertville to help pioneer the west coast town of Kitimat. They eventually settled in Parksville for an eventful retirement. Family was most important to Gil and he committed his life to their happiness and well-being. He will be lovingly remembered by his son, Garry (Elaine); daughter, Julie-An (John); treasured grandchildren, Calem Brassard, and Daymon Krotez; brothers, Alfred (Gladys), and Maurice (Therese); sisters, Therese Pellerin, Lorrette Carrier, and Jose Leduc; many nieces and nephews throughout Canada and the US. He was predeceased by his sister, MarieJean Morin and his brother, Aime. Ever strong, brave, adventurous, gentle, and generous, Gil made friends wherever he went. He greatly contributed to his community through his volunteer service and was always available for friends and neighbours in need. People will remember his easy laughter, his joy in living, and his BIG, kind heart. Gil left us too soon, and now he becomes part of an everlasting story, part of the many tales he told to all of those he loved. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 10th, 2015 at the Church of the Ascension, 887 Wembley Road in Parksville with a reception to follow. James Barker (Jim) Watson April 18 1936 - December 25 2014

It is with sadness we announce the death of Jim who died peacefully at home after a brief but couragous battle with cancer. Jim was born in Vancouver but spent most of his life in the Qaulicum area which he loved. He was an outdoor man and liked to hike: his favourite areas were Mt. Arrowsmith and Forbidden Plateau. Two of his big thrills were to walk across Comox glacier and stand on top of Mt. Arrowsmith and Mt. Albert Edward. He was also an antique car fan and enjoyed the many car shows he went to. Jim was predeceased by his father John and mother Gladys. Survived by wife Eileen, brother John (Dorothy), nephew Steve (Lisa) and great-nephew Jon-Robbie. He will be missed by all who knew him. Thanks to Dr Wagenaar and staff and the palliative care nurses for all their support. Funeral arrangements by Bev Walkey, Qualicum Beach Funeral Centre.

Steven John Mitchell

Steve was born in Port Alberni on May 30, 1970, grew up in Parksville and spent his adult life in Victoria until his death on December 27, 2014. He is predeceased by his father John, and his aunt Betty. Steve is mourned by his children Braden and Kennedy; his mother Marie; his grandmother Reta Ewan; his sister Kirsten (David) Erickson; his niece and nephew Jessica and Daniel Erickson; his uncles Don (Jan) Klint, Tom (Kristy) Mitchell and Bob (Vicki) Mitchell; his aunt Susan (Dick) DeLong; special niece Zoey Harrington and many cousins. Also his ex-wife Keli Harrington and her partner Keith Encinas both of whom have been amazing in their care of Steve this last year. A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Canadian Cancer Society.

t is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of James Biddle: husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, friend and all around awesome guy. A devoted family man, Jim was the rock that kept us grounded and was always there with love, support and a good laugh. He was a longtime member of the IUOE local 115 and earned the respect of many as he worked hard and climbed the ladder of success. He was also an avid golfer and retirement in Qualicum Beach offered many a venue and a group of good friends to share in this pastime. Dad was also an active service club member with the Shriners and Masons and flipped many a “flapjack at various events. Left behind to mourn are his wife of 59 years, Kay; his daughters Pam (Eric) Froehlich and Val (Harry) Schild as well as four grandsons; Joshua (Dennielle), Jordan (Somer), Tyson (Bailey) and Tori (Ryley); five great-grandsons; Noah, Austin, Aiden, Gavin & Magnus and his special “little rascal Misty who was his walking buddy and a great source of pleasure. A memorial is scheduled for Sat, Jan 10th at the Coast Bastion Hotel in Nanaimo, BC at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Shriners Hospital for Children (shriners@shawcable.com) or the Alzheimer’s Society in Dad’s name would be appreciated.
