Obituaries MCPHAIL, JIM On December 5, 2014 after a brief illness, Jim passed away peacefully surrounded by the thoughts and prayers of family and friends. Jim is survived by his wife Tammi, his sons Tyler and Travis, mom Marjorie, sister Cathy Scott (Martin, sons Miles and Graeme), sister in law Jodi Trovao (Tony, sons Connor and Ethan) and father in law George van Wilde Rode (Lynn). Sadly predeceased by his father Roy. A special thank you to Julie Loverin for her invaluable friendship and support. Thank you to the staff at KGH as well as Hospice House for the compassionate care Jim received. There will be no service by request; a get-together will be held at a later date. LENA LOUISE KRATOFIL Our Mother, Louise Kratofil died peacefully December 3, 2014 in Kelowna, British Columbia. She was 84. Mom was born June 30, 1930 in Newark, Arkansas to her parents, Joe and Grace Rayburn. She graduated from Biola University, La Mirada, California with a B. of Arts degree. She fell in love and married Paul Kratofil, in 1953. She and Paul served the Lord in India as missionaries for five years followed by pastoring churches in Saskatchewan and Manitoba for a number of years. She was dedicated to her family throughout her life and had a strong faith in God. Louise is survived by her daughters, Debbie, Diane (Chris), Donna, Darlene (Dan) and one special grandchild, Shelby. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Paul; her son, Douglas; and her brother, Robert. Mom was buried in a private ceremony on December 6, 2014. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Village Missions: 1715 Davies Rd. Sorrento, BC V0E 2W1. We would like to thank Dr. A. Van Heerden and staff for the care and support for Mom. It is with great sadness that we must say goodbye to a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother after a long battle with cancer. All who came across her path in life were touched by her kindness and willing to help. Mom enjoyed traveling and visiting her family in Italy. She loved to be with her grandchildren and great grandchildren whom they called Nonna. She passed away peacefully on December 1st at the age of 81 surrounded by her family. Tina was born on June 21, 1933 in Massa Macinaia (Lucca), Toscana, Italy and came to Canada in pursue of a better life. She is survived by her husband Romualdo Francesco (Frank) Incrocci of 60 years, her two sons Claudio (Louise) and Mauro, four grand-children, Christina (Johnny), Lisa (Jeffrey), Nadia (John), Silvia (Ryan) from Kelowna, four great grand-children Joshua, Zachary, Mika and Julia in Kelowna, one brother Silvano (Laura), her uncle Gino and many nieces and nephews in Italy. Special thanks to all who cared for my mom starting with Dr. Robert Williams, the Specialists at the Cancer Clinic and KGH Hospital. Thank you to a very special place, the Hospice House, to all their staff, nurses, caregivers and volunteers for your time and excellent care you gave mom. Your kindness and love you have shown my mother and our family will never be forgotten. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, December 12th, 2014 at 10:30am at St. Charles Garnier Catholic Church, 3665 Benvoulin Rd. Quietly and peacefully on December 5, 2014 at Kelowna General Hospital Norman Arnold Hudson Swanson, beloved husband of Mildred, passed into the presence of His Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Norman was born September 2, 1924 in Midale, Saskatchewan. He was the youngest of five children born to the late Alfred Swanson and Anna Swanson. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his four sisters: Mildred Swanson, Gladys Penner (Norman), Florence Kemp (Arthur), and Doris Aurell (Edward). He is survived by his beloved wife Mildred, two sons Donald and Douglas, daughter-in-law Michelle, three grandchildren Jessica, Blake and Kylie, great-granddaughter Nevaeh as well as several nephews and nieces. Norman graduated from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate, Winnipeg in 1939 and later achieved his R.I.A. Designation (now C.M.A.) in 1967. He was happily married to Mildred Johnson on June 10, 1944 and was deeply devoted to his wife and children. He had an employment relationship with CN Rail for forty-seven years, broken only by four years service in the R.C.A.F during the Second World War. He retired from CN Rail on December 31, 1987 and two years later moved from Winnipeg to Kelowna, BC. Norman was a well known soloist around Winnipeg, singing in Calvary Temple’s Faith to Live By telecast, the Male Quartet, choir and Gospel Fireside Hour. He was with the Winnipeg Evangelical Free Church for thirteen years, part of that time being the Church Treasurer and Outreach Chairman. He joined the Gideons International in Canada in 1987. Norman devoted his life to the service of God, his family and others. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 12:30 p.m. at the Evangel Church, 3261 Gordon Drive, Kelowna. WILFRED “LORNE” EDWARDS Passed away peacefully in the early morning of December 4, 2014. Lorne was born September 6, 1940 at Turtleford, Sask. He is survived by his devoted wife Georgina, son Chris (Parichat) twin granddaughters Aleesha and Anata, daughter Shari Edwards, one brother Dave (Karen), two sisters Shirley (Bill) Elmhurst, Holly (Francois) LaRochelle, sister-in-law Lynne (Greg) Halliday and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Wilfred and Elizabeth Edwards, brother Doug, mother and father-in-law Clark and Isabella Kingsbury and sister-in-law Dorothy Dunne. SOWINSKI, JOE Passed away peacefully at his home with his wife at his side on the morning of December 8th, 2014. Joe was born on August 2nd, 1933 in Tarnopol Saskatchewan and moved to British Columbia in 1961. He is predeceased by his mother Marcella, his father John, and his brother Frank. Joe started his teaching career in a one-room country school in Tarnopol in 1953. As a continuous learner, after saving some money he left Tarnopol three years later to completed his first university degree from the University of Saskatchewan. Once he completed his first degree, he joined the provincial government and taught public health in Saskatchewan for a year. After teaching in the public school system again for a year in first Sturgis then Lac La Ronge he moved to Nelson in 1961. He finally settled in Kelowna in 1964 teaching at KSS, George Elliot, and on finally at the brand new Okanagan Mission Secondary School. During his travels in the 1960’s he also taught for a short time in Richmond and completed his second degree at the University of British Columbia. Joe had a passion for teaching and guiding young minds and worked for years as a school district department head and champion for education. In 1968 he met the love of his life Kathy Sowinski in Kelowna at the badminton club. They were married on Kathy’s 26th birthday on June 28th, 1969. Together they purchased a hobby farm and raised a family in Kelowna. Kathy and Joe have two sons Marc and Jason, two daughter in laws Jane and Tammy, and four grandchildren - Matthew, Sara, Ava, and Isaac. Later in life, they both enjoyed an active retirement filled with travel, friends, and family. Joe and Kathy have been blessed with many supportive friends who have continued to be an active part of their lives in sickness and in health. Joe’s entire loving family were with him in the last days and are thankful for all the time that they were able to share with him. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 16th at 10:30 am at St. Charles Garnier Parish, 3645 Benvoulin Road, Kelowna, BC.
