Father of NHL star may have to tear down retaining wall KEVIN PARNELL
Election day saw lineups and long waits at the only polling station in Lake Country. While voters call for stations in the wards, that’s not easily done, says district staff. ...............................

Staff at the District of Lake Country are recommending the father of longtime NHL star Jarome Iginla tear down a retaining wall at his Carr’s Landing residence and rebuild it after it was constructed in contravention of the building permit granted for the property. Elvis Iginla, a wellknown and successful lawyer in Edmonton and the father of Colorado
Avalanche player Jarome, has owned a Carr’s Lake residence for at least 10 years, but the development of the property has had several issues over the years surrounding the construction of four retaining walls. Leamont said goodbye at their final meeting as members of Lake Country council.
Three Lake Country councillors said their goodbyes at their final council meeting at municipal hall in Winfield as one long-time councillor and two first-termers ended their service on Lake Country council. Barbara Leamont, Jamie McEwan and Lisa Cameron took part in their final council meeting last week, a short
meeting that came just days after residents in Lake Country elected a new council. After 12 years on council, Leamont decided against running to represent the ward of Carr’s Landing and will be replaced on council by Matt Vader, who was acclaimed as the only resident to step forward. “I’m very grateful for having the opportunity over the last 12 years to
represent the residents of Carr’s Landing on council and on many committees,” said Leamont. “I want to say a big thankyou to a wonderful staff and council. It’s been a great experience and a pleasure and all the best to the new council.” McEwan, the youngest member of council, also decided not to run again, stepping
