EDITH EMILY THOMPSON (NEE BANBURY) Peacefully passed away on July 18, 2014, just 3 months prior to her 95th birthday. Edith was born in Wolseley, Saskatchewan on October 17th, 1919 to Roy and Nellie Banbury. She later pursued a career in nursing and retired as Director of nursing in Regina, Saskatchewan after working several years both in Canada and the US with her life ending here in Kelowna, BC. Her proud and grateful daughters were the joys in her life, Eleanor Hunt of Bryan, Texas; Fran Thompson of Kelowna and Lynda (Eric) Stansfield of Kelowna, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Interment will be in Wolseley, Saskatchewan at a later date. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.mem.com and searching her name under stories. DONALD MCDOUGALL

1919-2014 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Don on July 18, 2014. Predeceased by his son Duncan in 1997, Don is survived by his loving wife Grace of 71 years; son Gerry (Jacquie); grandchildren Adam, Chris (Chantel), Melanie Laverick (Paul), David (Felicia), Mark (Candace), Alan; great grandchildren Duncan, Dekker, Hunter, Maxwell and Grace. He is also survived by his niece Joan Sommerstad (Wayne) and daughter in law Sandra Armstrong (Malcolm) Don was born and grew up in Regina and served for 6 years as a sergeant in the Canadian Air Force during World War II. He spent his career working for Imperial Oil in Regina, Edmonton and Toronto before settling in West Kelowna upon his retirement in 1979. Don truly enjoyed his retirement with his children and grandchildren and was a long time elder at St. David’s Presbyterian Church where he also did accounting and books until the age of 90. He was also a lifelong member of the Royal Northwest Mounted Police Lodge #11 in Regina. Even though he was there such a short time, the family would like to express it’s heartfelt thanks to the kind, caring and compassionate staff at Pine Acres Care Home. At the expressed wishes of Don, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, at your choosing you may wish to donate to either the Canadian Cancer Society or St. David’s Presbytarian Church, 271 Snowsell, Kelowna. FRESORGER, MILTON LYLE

May 17, 1957 – July 18, 2014 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Milton on July 18, 2014. He is lovingly remembered by his parents, Ed & Hilda Fresorger; sister Doreen Dupuis (Frank); brother Les Fresorger; and three nephews and a niece. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, July 28, 2014 at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna.

BUNZ, HELEN MARY

June 6, 1921 ~ July 19, 2014 Helen completed her earthly journey at noon on July 19, 2014 at the Kelowna General Hospital with her daughter at her side. Helen was a hard working farm girl growing up on a farm near Carmel, Saskatchewan, the 3rd oldest in a family of 12. As a young girl she worked in Humboldt and Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan; married in 1947 and jointly with her husband owned St. Gertrude General Store in rural Saskatchewan. They retired in Humboldt and the moved to Kelowna in 1986. Helen was always a hard worker, social and hospitable, fun loving with a sense of humour, someone who loved to play games and cards, who offered help and support to her family and friends when needed, who bravely battled through times of trouble and health issues. She had a strong faith and prayer life and was always involved in her Roman Catholic Church life wherever she lived. Helen was a caring mother and grandmother and friend. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Doreen (Andre) Beaulieu of Calgary, Alberta and Anthony (Anne) Bunz of LaRonge Saskatchewan; six grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and siblings, relatives and many friends. She was predeceased by her husband Henry (2010), her parents William and Justina Ruskowsky, daughter-in-law Rhonda Bunz, and several siblings. Special thanks go out to the caring staff and residents at SunPointe Village, the Cottonwoods Care Centre, Peg Budd of Interior Health, and family Doctors: Allison and Fergusson. The compassionate care shown by Dr. Main, the other doctors and the resident doctor, Sheldon (in E.R.) and all the other nurses and care staff (so sorry – don’t have all your names) on the 4th floor B of Kelowna General Hospital during the last week of Mom’s life was so appreciated and comforting. Owing so much to Janet O’Flynn, Bev and John Flegel, and Phil & DeeDee Ruskowsky, we could never have survived this past year without your help. And we so appreciate the many visits and help from all Mom’s friends including: Mary Barton and Irene Algar, and Janine Fzela. Thanks also to Father Otto Rollheiser, Father Sebastian, Father Pfliger, and Father Cerlouie Jimenez who visited and prayed with Mom these last months. To all, your kindness and support will never be forgotten. Prayers for Helen will be recited at St. Theresa’s Catholic Parish, 700 Rutland Road, N., Kelowna, BC at 6:00 p.m., Friday, July 25, 2014. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Theresa’s Catholic Parish at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 26, 2014, officiated by Father Cerlouie Jimenez. THOMPSON - CHARITY Charity passed away peacefully at Lake Country Lodge on July 15, 2014. She was born May 1, 1916 in Valparaiso, Sask. Survived by her sons Donald, wife Carol, Calvin, wife Marilyn, Gerald, wife Audrey, daughter Maxine & partner Bev., 11 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband Bill in 1977 and all of her siblings. Funeral will be held in Tisdale, Sask. at the Anglican Church, July 24 at 2pm. Arrangements are by Baron’s Funeral Home in Tisdale. 1932 - 2014 It is with great sadness the family of Joseph Laslop, Born April 8 1932 Died July 20 2014, announces his passing after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife Helena, of 60 years, his 5 children, Gail (Lance), Marlene (Gary), Patty (Tom), Ron (Chris), Charlene (Darrell), 14 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren with one more little angel on the way. He also leaves 2 sisters, Rosie O’Gorman and Julia Peppin. Joseph’s family was his world and he touched many lives and made friends wherever he went. With tools in hand a new friend was welcomed into his life. He was always there to help in any way he could. You will be sadly missed and forever in our hearts. NAKA, ROBERT KEECHI (BOB) Passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at the age of 68. Survived by his loving wife Shauna of 30 years, daughter Andrea Kouwenhoven (Jeremy) of Kelowna, son Timothy Naka of Calgary, brother Stan Naka of Kelowna, sister Audrey Palfrey (Bob Moore) of Kelowna and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was born in Kelowna on September 12, 1945. He was involved in farming, sports including hockey, men’s senior softball, fishing and was a pie connoisseur. Bob was a steward of the land. Family was very important to him and he loved children. At the end of Bob’s life he became an organ donor and helped 5 people with his donations. Bob was a man of integrity and lived life by his principles. Bob started his working life by articling at Rutherford Bazzett Chartered Accountants. He worked as the comptroller of Big White Ski Resort during the early years of the hill’s development. In the early 1970s he started Valley Waterworks with John Naka. They enjoyed many years of success with many valued customers. Bob’s pride was providing excellent customer service. Sincere thanks to Dr. Beck and the entire staff of the IUC ward as well as Dr. Marjorie Docherty and Henry Docherty. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at 7:00 pm at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC.
