Julia Baxmann and Branden Millett performed two songs, Vienna and Forever Young. When it came time to distribute the scholarships and bursaries parents, friends and family learned that this relatively small class of only 27 individuals had achieved a phenomenal scholarship total of over $180,000. Josh Stimpson $1,200 – 97.5 GPA going to UVic for a Bachelor of Science. Thinh Atkinson $1,100 – 96.275 GPA will attend UBCOkanagan to continue her studies toward becoming a physician by earning her Bachelor of Science. Julia Baxmann $1,000 – 93.625 GPA heading to UBCVancouver to earn her Bachelor of Arts and Education. Joey Rankin $1,200 – 91.75 GPA will go to Selkirk CollegeNelson to study Digital Art and New Media The Mike Downing Memorial Award is awarded to the top English student and this year was won by Julia Baxmann – $700. The George and Sidney Kakuno $500 was won by Anna Danyluk. BC Government awards of $1,000 each were won by Joey Rankin, Sarah Filgate, and Emily Parker A $500 Rotary bursary goes to a student who has demonstrated a high level of involvement in their community and school. Joey Rankin was awarded the Angela Shelli Williamson bursary of $500, which goes to a grad who attended elementary school in the West Boundary area before coming to BCSS and who is continuing on to post secondary education and who has made a positive difference in someone’s life—whether at school, home or the community. Canadian Union of Public Employees – $250 each to Anna Danyluk and Sarah Filgate. B.C. Cattleman’s Association – $2,000 to Joshua Stimpson. Susan Auger made a special presentation to Thinh Atkinson and Anna Danyluk in heartfelt appreciation from the Fillipino community for their work in organizing a dinner to aid typhoon victims last year. Grand Forks Credit Union – $2,025 Callie Williamson Heritage Credit Union – Anna Danyluk Grand Forks Auxiliary to Boundary Hospital – $1,000 each to Miranda Boltz and Thinh Atkinson Kettle River Lions – $1,000 each to Sarah Filgate, Thinh Atkinson and Joey Rankin. Royal Canadian Legion – Thinh Atkinson $1,000, Anna Danyluk $500, Josh Stimpson $1,000, Callie Williamson $700, Sarah Filgate $500, and Julia Baxmann $800. Women’s Institutes of Bridesville, Main River and Rock Creek – $900 Sarah Filgate Thinh Atkinson, with her goal

of becoming a doctor, won a $30,000 entrance scholarship to UBC-Okanagan. Julia Baxmann was awarded a $40,000 entrance scholarship from UBC-Vancouver. Josh Stimpson, with a 4.0 GPA over the past five years, received a $20,000 entrance scholarship to UVic and, in the words of Principal Louise Bayles, “Is also the very deserving recipient of the largest scholarship that anyone at BCSS has ever won—$60,000 (Schulich Leader Scholarship to a student pursuing an undergraduate degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics).”

Not attending the ceremony but also receiving their diploma this year are Jacob Vaten, Dustin Pollard and Isaac Miks.
