Genesis club shines at B.C.’s
Athletes from Abbotsford's Genesis Martial Arts excelled at the recent B.C. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu championships in Burnaby. Genesis ranked seventh in the overall youth club rankings and eighth among adults at the event, while registering 10 individual podium finishes. Jeremy Kennedy took gold in two adult male blue belt categories, while Jason Rueck (adult male feather blue belt) and Brogan Bjarnason (mighty mite open light grey belt) also ascended to the top step of the podium. Silver medalists were Devon MacIntyre (adult male middle purple belt) and Mani Sidhu (juvenile male feather white belt), while Raul Hernandez (master male middle blue belt), Shawn Owen (adult male middle white belt), Kotaro Fujinaga (adult male light feather white belt) and Draven Pruett (pee wee open medium heavy white belt) each claimed bronze. This week, the Genesis club will be hosting six-time world champion and International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu hall of famer Rubens "Cobrinha" Charles Maciel. He'll be conducting training and seminars Dec. 12-15.
