1-877-223-3311 Obituaries BUCHWITZ ALVINA ROSE Alvina was born to parents Imanuel and Rosina on November 28, 1922. The family including Alvina’s parents and 4 siblings arrived in Canada on May 26, 1927. They settled on a farm at Scapa on July 5, of that year. On August 1, 1927 her mother passed away. For awhile she stayed with neighboring families until her dad remarried and the family was reunited. After graduating grade eight at age 14, she left to work at Camrose as a nanny and domestic helper. From there she went to work in Calgary where the children were playmates of Ralph Klein. Her claim to fame was she taught Ralph how to ride a bike. From there it was off to BC for 5 years for fruit picking to hospital nursery to installing fabric on fighter planes for the war. On one of her return trips home she met Nat and after a courtship of dating and letter writing, she married Nathaniel, her life partner for the next 68 1/2 years. They moved into a two storey house, one room up and one room down. Here two boys were born, Dan on May 2, 1946 and Dave on March 26, 1950. In 1952 they took over the family farm, it was here they completed their family with the birth of Robert on August 5, 1953. Alvina took great pride in her many flower gardens that brightened up every yard and home she lived in. She could feed any number of unexpected guests on a moment’s notice. After a move to south of Endiang and then into a new house in Endiang, they moved into Hanna in 2001 and into the lodge in 2010; where she resided until her passing on November 16, 2013 at the age of 90 years. Predeceased by parents Imanuel and Rosina; grandson Wade; stepmother Maria Pahl; sisters Lena (Carl) Weber, Mary (Helmut) Reimer, Florence Dabbs; brothers Arnold (Frieda), Arnold’s second wife Esma, John, Otto, and Roland; Alvina is survived by her loving husband Nathaniel of Hanna; sons Dan (Verla) of Endiang, David (Luann) of Bluffton, Robert (Sheila) of Endiang; grandchildren Garry (Michele), Maryann (Garnet) McLearn, Miles (Judy), Susan Reid, Dwayne, Kelly (Roberta), Kirk (Twila), Lane (Bobbi); as well as 19 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Alvina is also survived by her siblings Emanuel Erion of Wetaskiwin, Victor (Violet) Erion of Brooks, Albert (Tina) Erion of Calgary, Emma Flaig of Ontario, Walter (Diane) Erion of Calgary, Ernie (Joanne) Erion of Innisfail, and Leo (Shirley) Erion of Scapa; brother in law Frank Dabbs, and sisters in law Lucille Erion, Shirley (Jack) Benedict. Funeral services were held in the Endiang Community Hall, Thursday, November 21, 2013 at 2:00 PM with Walter Erion leading the service. Tribute was given by Leo Erion and scriptures were read by Maryann McLearn and Susan Reid. Several musical selections were performed by the duet of Marvin and Karen Engel. Interment was held at Endiang Cemetery with Albert Erion officiating. Pallbearers were grandsons Garry, Miles, Kelly, Kirk, Lane and Wade (In our hearts forever) Buchwitz. Family and friends gathered in the Endiang Hall for a time of fellowship and a luncheon by the Community. Memorial donations may be given to Alberta Cancer Foundation or the Endiang Cemetery. CHRISTIANSON Lawrence, known by most people as “Chris” or “Barney” passed away on November 16th, 2013 at the age of 82. Chris leaves with his passing, his loving wife Virginia, brother Lloyd; sister Gloria Ataide; Sons Cameron (Sharlene) and Rory (Lana); Grandchildren Brooke (Stephanie), Blair (Kylee), Crystal (Jesse), Chelsy (Jodie), Rory Jr., Kendra, Braden, and Rayna; Great Grandchildren Avery, Holden, Weston, Maddox and Parker. Chris was born in Calgary Alberta o n J u l y 1 , 1931 and grew up in Calgary at the Booth Memorial home along with his brother and sister. Chris was a determined and industrious young man and in his early twenty’s he left Calgary to seek new opportunities, landing a job in Drumheller working for Gulf Oil where he met his wife Virginia. Chris and Virginia were married in 1955 and finally settled in Stettler in 1956. Chris spent 23 years working with Gulf Oil, all the while, managing businesses on the side including the Western Gem Hotel in Drumheller. Chris finally quit Gulf Oil and went into business for himself in 1971 starting a mobile home dealership and later ventured into real estate and motels where he enjoyed success working along side his family. Chris was a very charming, social and fun loving spirit and those who knew Chris would always light up at the opportunity to chat with him because a conversation with Chris guaranteed a good hardy laugh. Chris was everyone’s friend and he was known widely for his good sense of humor. He loved to visit with everyone at social and family gatherings. Chris and Virginia retired in 1989 and spent their winters in Arizona where they lived on a golf course and enjoyed golf and happy hour every day for nearly twenty years. Summers were spent enjoying his family and grandchildren, following Rory and his family on the race circuit, and puttering around Rory’s shop. Chris will be dearly missed by his friends and family; Chris’ wonderful spirit, and our memories of him will forever bring inspiration and smiles to us all. Funeral services were held on Monday, November 25, 2013 at the Heartland Chapel of Stettler Funeral Home with Reverend Ross Helgeton officiating. Grandson Blair Christianson gave a loving tribute to those in attendance of the love him and the grandchildren shared with their grandfather. Family and friends gathered in the Heartland Reception Centre for a time of fellowship and a luncheon. Condolences may be viewed or sent to the family at www.stettlerfuneralhome.com.
