ALVIN BROWN 25 March 1935 to 03 October 2013

It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Alvin on October3, 2013 at N.R.G.H. Alvin is survived by his wife Beth, daughters Brenda, Margaret (Bruce), Kathy (Nigel), grandchildren Stephen, Thomas, Matthew and James. He will also be fondly remembered by Beth’s children - Jane (Howard), Susan, Rob and grandchildren Mackenzie and Matthew, as well as his many friends and Barney his doggy companion. Born in Ontario – Alvin entered the R.C.M.P. at a young age retiring after 20 years with the rank of S/ Sgt – on moving to Vancouver Island in 1985 he persued an active and rewarding career in Real Estate. During his retirement years he greatly enjoyed participating in various Bridge Clubs – his garden, home, dogs – and larger than life he most enjoyed visiting with and entertaining friends. He has left us too soon and will be greatly missed. In accordance with Alvin’s wishes a private Cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service. A gathering for Remembrance and Celebration of Alvin’s life will be held and the family invite all those who would like to join them – on Sunday, October 20, 2013 from 2pm to 4pm at the Quality Resort Bayside in Parksville. No flowers please – if desired – donations in memory of Alvin may be made to the N.R.G.H. Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice.

LOIS IRENE NELSON May 13, 1927-September 20, 2013

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our mother, Lois. She is survived by her sisters, Doreen Cameron, Joan (Jack) Boardman and her children Sheila (Doug), Brad (Carla) and Jo-Anne (John), grandchildren Erin (Dave), Brian (Tiffany) and Conner (Leea). Great grandchildren Jesse, Evan, Ebony, Haley, Farah and Elijah. Numerous nieces and nephews in Vancouver, extended family in Union Bay and companion Gordon Lundine. Lois was born in Vancouver and spent her childhood and early adult years there. She moved to Vancouver Island in 1963 and settled in Union Bay. In 1998 she moved to her much loved home in Qualicum Beach. Lois was an untiring supporter of the community in Qualicum Beach, volunteering for various organizations including The White Cane Club, The Lions, The Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the O.A.P. Club. She was also a member of the Lighthouse Community Association, giving many hours of her time and energy to the running of the Lighthouse Community Hall. She will be well remembered for her wonderful sense of humour, her love of family, song and theatre and her ability to tell endless jokes and stories! She will also be remembered for her unselfish devotion to friends, neighbours and community. We love you Mum and will be in our hearts forever. There will be a Celebration of Life for Lois on November 9, 2013 2:00pm, at Lighthouse Community Hall.
