Town’s new parade float put in its first appearance by Steve Dills Sylvan Lake News
Sylvan Lake’s new float was fittingly unveiled during the Centennial parade Saturday. It was created by local artist Shane Seib, who said he was honoured but skeptical and unsure what to create to represent the community. Sails depict the lake lifestyle, said information from Seib, circulated by the town’s Beach Ambassadors during the parade. “As part of the ‘all seasons’ environment, I included the Christmas tree that the town is so well known for throughout the winter
months.” “Two larger than life characters represent how inviting Sylvan Lake is to both residents and guests. Again, to represent a “town of all seasons”, these characters are busy skating and playing beach volleyball. “Finally — the beacon of Sylvan Lake — the lighthouse. I realize its current absence on the lake; however, with the promise to once again watch over our waters, I knew I needed to include it. The future design of the new lighthouse is still up for debate, so I created one that still leaves room to the imagination and still represents the concept. “After coming up with most designs and bringing them to life, I was unconvinced that the float looked complete,” wrote Seib. “It needed just one more … something. Ah yes, a rusty anchor and chain to finish it all off!”
