Totems’ top athletes Aldergrove Star
Outstanding athletes of Aldergrove Secondary School’s past and present received accolades and awards in ceremonies at the school last week. The school’s Totems Athletic Wall of Fame had two new additions this year, with the inductions of Christina van Aert and Connor Hunter. Van Aert’s expertise in basketball begna in her high school years at Aldergrove and continued through university and at the national program levels. Among her awards were captain of the U-16 provincial team in 1988 and most valuable player as captain of the U-17 provincial team in 1989. She played with the University of Victoria from 1990-96, CIS All Canadian in 1995 and 1996, captain of the Canada National Team in 1993, and induction to the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame as female athlete of the year in 1993. Hunter’s achievements in rugby include the Fraser Valley cham-
