The Little Star Children’s Centre took top spot for best costume in the weekend’s Family Day parade. They were followed in second place by Island Farms and the Parksville Qualicum 4-H Club in third and the PQ Pony Club in fourth spot. The 4H Club rocketed to top spot in the Youth Participation category, followed by Little

Star Children’s Centre in second, Kids Fest in third and Oceanside BMX in fourth. The Qualicum Beach Downtown Business Association took the coveted title of Best Float, followed by the Arrowview Kids Club in second, Pharmasave in third and Hot n Cool Yoga in fourth. Finally, the award for Best Community Spirit went to Sparks, followed by Flying Phil in second, the Children’s Discovery Centre in third and the PQ Shriners in fourth. Organizers say the parade was a great success, with more than 40 entries taking part.

As far as family events go, the fireworks held at Qualicum Beach Saturday night could stand as a good example. Oceanside RCMP Corporal Jesse Foreman said while there was a strong police presence at the event, everyone behaved themselves. “We had two dedicated members there and between 9:30 and 10:30 p.m. three traffic mem-

bers joined for a foot patrol,” he said. “There were absolutely no problems and everyone was extremely well-behaved.” It was a welcome development, he added. “It made us happy that nobody got carried away or out of control and traffic cleared out without problems,” Foreman said. “It was an extremely great family event.”
