The Alberni Happy Hatters have been a chapter of the Red Hat Society for nine years. They joined the Cherry Tarts Ii and Luscious Lady Bugs at Burde Hill Estate Clubhouse to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Red Hatting. The ladies did skits and gave demonstrations during an afternoon of fun.
“Luscious Lady Bugs” gathered with two other red hatters groups at the Burde Hill Estate Club House to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of Red Hatting.

The Mid-Island Kidney Association (MIKA) held its annual Spring Bring and Buy Potluck Dinner on April 20 at the Eagles Hall on Third Avenue. Penny Gates was the lucky winner of a MIKA t-shirt and was presented with it by member Anna Cullina. MIKA is currently holding a raffle and will be at No Frills every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and at Quality Foods every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. First prize is a $200 gift certificate to Quality Foods and the draw date is June 10.
The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #293 gave out a whopping $6,100 to local groups. Bingo chairman Barrie Ward said that their Wednesday night bingos continue to grow and so this allows them to give away more money. The lucky recipients were: the Legion bursary fund, Bread of Life, Abbeyfield residents, Echo and Fir Park Village residents, Returning the Favour, Meals on Wheels, Port Alberni Hospice/Ty Watson House, Cancer Society, Alzheimers Society, Diabetes Association, Fire Fights, Alcohol and Drug counseling, Friends of Westhaven and Heritage Place.
