CADEAU Florence Mary

Passed away peacefully on March 30, 2013 in Chilliwack at the age of 84 years. She was born on CADEAU December 17, 1928 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Florence is survived by her children: Edward Mernickle (Linda), Linda Kerr (Robert) and Robert Mernickle (Charlene); nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Chrystal; her husband Clark; and her first husband, Edward Mernickle. A memorial service will be held at Henderson’s Funeral Home, 45901 Victoria Ave, Chilliwack on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 2:00 pm. Cremation and burial will be held at a later date. DAY John Russell

Feb 12, 1930-March 23, 2013 Surrounded by family, John passed away at home on March 23, 2013. A muchloved husband, father, grandfather and loyal friend, John leaves to mourn, his wife Rose; sons: Rodney (Tom) and Brian (Bryan); step-children: Fiona (Kent), Lorna, Ruth (Doug), Dawson (Elizabeth). Missing their Poppa are grandchildren: Devon, Chris, Sean, Chelsea, Curtis, Jasmine, Thomas, Brandon, Daniel and Violet; and greatgranddaughter: Brooklyn. Also grieving are nephew, Boyd (Lorraine, Jennifer); niece Lesley (Al, Michael); cousins: including Leslie, Patsy, Richard, Colin (Christina) and Chris; John’s many friends and his dog Molly. John was predeceased by his father Frederick, mother Joan and sister Sheila. John was born in Winnipeg. He completed his B.Sc (geology) at the University of Manitoba. Following his early career as a geologist (survey and oil field geophysics) John took teacher training at UBC. He found his vocation teaching high school math and science for over 30 years (three years in Langley and then at Mission Secondary School). Special thanks go to Dr. Scott Bakker, Chilliwack Hospital staff, Home, and Palliative Care services for their wise, compassionate care. Thanks also to dear friends El, Woody and Suzy who helped ease John’s final days. Johnny-the-Rock will be remembered as a loving, generous, smart, funny man whose interests spanned history, politics, geology and film. If so desired, donations in John’s memory may be made to the Chilliwack SPCA or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada. A service of Thanksgiving for John’s life will be held at

EMMANUEL Valarie Mary

Valarie Mary Emmanuel passed away peacefully on March 23, 2013 at the Abbotsford General EMMANUEL Hospital at the age of 61. Valarie is survived by her husband Japhas Emmanuel (Manny); daughters: Chere, Andrea; son Julian; granddaughters: Jordan and Mackenzie; grandsons: Johnathon, Tyler, Aaron and a host of friends and relatives. It was her request not to have a funeral service therefore a memorial service/ celebration of her life will be announced at a later date to encompass the presence of relatives and friends nation wide. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. John Hamilton, Dr. Wilson and all of those who contributed to the care of Valarie during her years of declining health. FLEENOR Violet

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Violet Fleenor on March 31, 2013 at FLEENOR the Cascade Lodge, Chilliwack, BC. Violet is survived by her husband of 63 years Hubert (Bert) Fleenor; sons: Bruce (Colleen) of Cawston, BC, Joseph of Port McNeil, BC, Colin (Gail) and Dennis (Jacque) of Chilliwack, BC; grandchildren: Kagney (Carlie), Brandon, Rena (Dave) Lerette, Dustin, Jordan (Faye), Cody (Kayla), Seth, Wiley and Toby; great-grandchildren: Aksel, James, Braydon, Rylee, Adrion and Kardence. She is also survived by her step-sisters: Eleanora Upham and Erma Roed and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Predeceased by brothers: Albert, Samuel, Fredrick and Adolph; sisters: Verna Moseanko, Louise Quast, Hazel Hooper; and step-sisters: Ella Hanley and Frieda Vanstone. Violet was born in Maunders, Alberta to Emma (Janke) and Tobias Quast. When she was only four years old her father died and later her Mother married Robert Weber bringing together a large blended family. In 1946 the family moved to Chilliwack and it was there she met Bert Fleenor, marrying him June 11, 1949. In the 1970’s they sold their farm, bought a Winnebago and travelled extensively throughout the United States. They later lived in Vancouver and moved back to Chilliwack in the 1980’s. She was a member of the Women’s Community Institute Promontory Heights Branch for 55 years. Violet was a very special

lady who will be remembered for her beautiful smile and quiet ways. A special thank you to Dr. Quentin Smith and all the wonderful caring staff at the Norman Manor, Chilliwack General Hospital and the Cascade Lodge. A memorial service will be held April 6, 2013 at 1:00 pm at St. Paul’s Church, 8871 School Street, Chilliwack, BC.

KABERNICK Alice Marlene

Born in Steinbach Manitoba, May 20 1943 and passed away April 2, 2013, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She leaves behind husband Jim Kabernick; children: Jason Kabernick (kids-Shayla and Hailey) Jodi Rutledge (kids- Acacia and Perry) Jen Hughes (husband Mike and children Loren, Jazmin,Matt and Logan). She was an amazing wife and mother and will be missed by all who knew her. Service to be held Tuesday April 9, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Sardis Community Church on South Sumas Rd. Sept. 3, 1925 - Mar. 20, 2013 Katherine Peterson passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at the Waverly Senior Village PETERSON at the age of 87 years. Kathy will be remembered by her loving family; her husband of 60 years of marriage, “Pete�; son Richard(Cathy), daughter, Linda (William), also her extended family spread across the continent. She enjoyed her home, her gardens and her friends. TIPPING Shirley Lorraine

(nee White) Shirley Lorraine Tipping passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on March 23, TIPPING 2013 in Chilliwack at the age of 76. She was born on March 21, 1937 in Meadowlake, Saskatchewan. She is survived by her children: Don of Kamloops, Violet of Chilliwack, Connie (Ken) of Chilliwack; and her grandchildren: Colin and Julie. She will also be remembered by her brothers Ed (Annette), John (Rose), Earl (Joanne), Norman; and her sisters, Florence and Gloria and their families. She was predeceased by her loving husband Frank, her parents, and sisters Pearl and Pauline.
