Mill reaches milestone
Catalyst Paper’s Port Alberni mill is marking 10 years as the supplier of coated mechanical paper for Rolling Stone Magazine. As the only producer of coated mechanical paper in Western North America, Port Alberni’s mill also supplies paper for Men’s Journal, and the west coast edition of US Weekly, according to a press release. “We have an excellent relationship and a shared commitment to being great partners,” Catalyst president and CEO Kevin J. Clarke said. “The titles they publish on our paper have great name recognition and having a long-standing anchor account helps grow additional coated business...”

support. This award is presented to an individual or individuals who go out of their way to promote good will and team spirit within the Re/Max organization. Together, Gray and Scott participate and
motivate others in fundraising events such as the Children’s Miracle Network, Festival of Trees, the BC Children’s Miracle Weekend Miracle Maker fundraiser, Yard Sale for the Cure for Breast Cancer awareness, Dog
Day in the Park for the local SPCA and “Movember”. Each year they donate to the Children’s Miracle Network auction; last year their custom made BMW Re/Max pedal cars raised $8,000. Re/Max Mid-Island
Realty serves Port Alberni, Ucluelet and Tofino. Gray joined Re/Max in 1998 and received Hall of Fame status in 2002. In 2005, she received the Re/Max Lifetime Achievement award. She is also active with Vancouver
Island Real Estate Board – Commercial division. Scott is one of the busiest managers around, looking after the needs of 24 agents in three locations. He built the BMW pedal cars and also p voices the office’s radio commercials.

Ford afforded sign variance
City council has approved a development variance so Van Isle Ford owner Will Pulford can build a free-standing sign for his new dealership on Beaver Creek Road. The sign will be just shy of 10 metres (32 feet) high.

Port Alberni will be getting a Quizno’s sub franchise in the Alberni Mall in the future... Taylor’s Flowers has announced they are closing after 23 years. But people missing owner Joanne’s talents can take heart: she will start at Quality Foods in the floral department on March 8, according to Taylor’s Flowers’ Facebook page...Pizza Factory has relocated to the former Root Cellar café space at Sixth Avenue and Roger Street. Look for them to open soon...Artisan Angel Café will open this Friday beside Capelli on Victoria Quay...The Crafters’ Market will be back at Harbour Quay on May 1 after signing a five-month lease with the city.
