ANNIS Brian

Brian Graham Annis passed away January 12, 2013 peacefully at home. Born in BurnaANNIS by, Brian lived in Chilliwack most of his life, growing up playing hockey, Jr. A and WHL. He was the tough guy. He worked with his father and mother at Annis Pools for many years, tough work but enjoyed the sun. Since then he worked in fire protection and construction of many types. Most recently M&M Excavating, the guys will miss 'Dad'. His vast knowledge made him indispensable in always getting things right. He was well respected in the community. He will be greatly missed by his entire family but especially his 'Girls' , wife Samantha Annis (Hughes), step mom Audree Annis, daughters Melissa Annis, Nicole Annis and Devan Annis and his five beautiful grandchildren Madison Harvey, Aiden Harvey, Kayel McLean, River McLean and Kaitlyn Brown. He's predeceased by his father Graham Annis and his mother Evelyn Annis (Watmough). He had a great many friends over the years, the kind of guy who would give you his shirt off his back if you needed it. All are welcome to attend a 'Celebration of Life' for Brian at the Masonic Hall, 45905 Hocking Avenue, Chilliwack on Sunday January 27, 2013 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Obituaries BERNDT Gertrude Emilie

Gertrude (Trudy) Berndt, surrounded by family, went to sleep peacefully on January 16, 2013 in the Chilliwack General HosBERNDT pital at the age of 85. She will be lovingly remembered by her extended family -- stepson, Bob (Char) Hack of Salmon Arm; daughter Betty (Henry) Chretien of Penticton; son John (Brenda) Hack of Oliver; daughter Shirley (Will) Van Esch of Sechelt; and daughter Gwen (Eric) Jansen of Chilliwack; brother Henry Gerber of Surrey; brother Willi Gerber of Aldergrove; niece Dorothy (Bob) of Killaly, Saskatchewan.  Also left to mourn her are -- grandchildren John (Ria), Bev (Vic), Kristina, Katie (Paul), Jennifer (Bud), Becky (Spencer), Felita (Gerry); Suzanne (Sakti), 9 great-grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces and many Hack family inlaws.  Special to her heart was her youngest great-grandchild Jacob. Trudy was sadly predeceased by her husbands John Hack and Ed Berndt; her parents Jakob and Olga Gerber; sister Maria Hofmann; stepdaughter Elsa, son-in-law Ron and son Bobby. Trudy was born in Czernowitz, Romania, in 1929.  She survived WWII as a teenager in numerous displaced persons camps in Germany and then immigrated to Canada in 1951.  She married John Hack in Chilliwack and became mom and confidant to his two teenage children Elsa and Bob. In 1961Trudy, John and their two young children, Betty and John, welcomed Elsa’s (Ron) 3 children, Shirley, Bobby and Gwen, into their family. Later in life Trudy entered the work force as a Home Support Worker.  She was well loved by her clients and co-workers.  She enjoyed helping her friends and family, gardening and preserving, listening to music, taking pictures, admiring flowers and telling stories of her life. In her last years she greatly enjoyed the help of her Home Support ladies, the friendships of her NetCare family and of her apartment-block community. She spent her life demonstrating unconditional love to her family, friends and strangers. A Celebration of Life is planned for Sat, Feb 2nd, 2013 at 3 pm at the SeventhDay Adventist Church, 46024 Riverside Drive, Chilliwack, BC.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to ‘NetCare Day Program--Life Enrichment Fund’ in support of this wonderful initiative at Parkholm Place—or charity of your choice. CLEAL Donald MacDonald

November 30, 1927January 16, 2013 Don was a lifelong avid outdoorsman and had a great respect for nature. He started logCLEAL ging at the age of 15 during WWII, growing into establishing his own logging contracting business. He spent his working time in the outdoors in the beauty of British Columbia. Don had a great empathy and generosity for all living things, especially animals. He was an avid gardener; one of his joys was growing vegetables for family, friends and the food bank. Don took great pride in his dahlias, which were extraordinary. Don was sociable and enjoyed weekly outings with his grandson Gavin, as well as playing bridge with friends. Don’s greatest pride, comfort and joy was his family. He is predeceased by his wife of 58 years Claudia, as well as his daughter Cindy. He will be deeply missed by daughter Dawn, and son-in-law Eric, son Don and daughter-inlaw Debbie. Also by grandchildren Derek, Erin, Laura, Craig, Evan, Deanndra, Jordan, Gavin, and great grandson Vadik. and also by his sister June and numerous other relatives. DULONG Darlien Rosanna

Darlien Rosanna Dulong, of Chilliwack, BC, passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at the age of 73, after a difficult battle with cancer. A celebration of life will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the Chilliwack Fish & Game Hall at 48685 Chilliwack Lake Rd., Chilliwack. Darlien was born in Rossland, BC on December 27, 1939. She graduated from J.L. Crow High School and continued on to receive a Certified Dental Assistant Diploma from the University of Toronto. Darlien was married to Paul E. Dulong on October 8, 1966; they were married 28 years. Darlien worked as a Product Promotion Demonstrator for Save-On-Foods and Retail Resources for the last 15 years and retired in 2008. Darlien enjoyed culinary exploration, exploring the outdoors and flower arranging. Darlien was also actively involved in Scouts Canada with the 4th Chilliwack Scouting Group from 1983 through 1990. Darlien is survived by her son, Paul S. Dulong and his wife, Debbie Dulong, and other family and friends. Darlien is preceded in death by her parents, Steve and Ada Kavic and husband, Paul E. Dulong. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Canadian Cancer Society – BC & Yukon Chapter or The Arthritis Society – BC & Yukon Chapter. The family of Darlien Rosanna Dulong wishes to thank Dr. J. Boshoff, Family Physician, Dr. B. Keith, Oncologist, Dr. R. Bull, Hospice Physician and The Cascades Hospice staff for doing all that they could to help her and make her comfortable.

LAUFENBERG Johann

With deep sadness we announce the passing of our dad in Chilliwack, B.C,. Hans was born LAUFENBERG in Rauschendorf, Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1959 with his wife Paula and two daughters. Settling in Victoria he worked at St. Michelle Winery until retirement. Dad sang for many years with the Killian Singers and in the choir of the German-Canadian club both in Victoria and Vancouver. He enjoyed many years of travel with his family. Dad leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Paula, daughters Annelene(Otto), Wilfriede(John), Astrid(Mike), 8 grandchildren and 9 greatgrandchildren. We will miss you Papa, and will hold many fond memories in our hearts.

SHERIDAN Lois Erna

Lois Erna Sheridan passed away January 15, 2013 in Chilliwack at the age of 54. SHERIDAN She was born February 3, 1958 in Chilliwack. She is survived by her daughter, Sarah and son, Robbie (Sarah); grandchildren, Shane, Athena, Aliya and Jacob. Lois also leaves her father Jake (Carla) Kouwenhoven; her siblings, Dick Kouwenhoven, Jan (Lindsay) McPhee, Michael (Marilyn) Kouwenhoven, Jacob (Rachael) Kouwenhoven and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother, Maartje Kouwenhoven and many aunts, uncles and other family members. Lois grew up a “Chilliwack� girl and lived a good life. She had many long time friends from her adventures. She recently had enjoyed her McDonald’s Coffee outings with Fred & Kendon. Lois worked as a Business Admin-

istrator for Thousand Trails for many years up at Cultus Lake and she also enjoyed working for Sardis Video Station and had her own housekeeping business. She was proud of her family, especially her grandkids! Golf, travelling and family were special to her. In July 2012, she was diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease and had spent her final year with her sister Jan (Lindsay) at their home. She will be greatly missed! There will be visitation for friends on January 22, 2013 from 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM at Henderson’s Funeral Home 45901 Victoria Ave. Chilliwack.
