July 7, 1918 – Nov. 24, 2012 We are sad to mark the passing of our Mother, Lucille Arcand (neÊ Lessard), on November 24, ARCAND 2012 at the Sidney Care Home on Vancouver Island. She began her life on July 7, 1918 on a farm near Meota, Saskatchewan. In 1947 she moved to join her husband on their new dairy farm on Fairfield Island, near Chilliwack, British Columbia. Lucille was predeceased by her husband Remi after 62 years of marriage and is survived by her children: Raymond, Lorraine (Marklinger), Louise (Hamilton), Irene (Baker), and George. She was also blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

ENGEL Edna

nee Weitzel Edna Engel (Weitzel) was born in Togo, Saskatchewan on August 6, 1927 and passed away on December 14, 2012 at Christine Morrison Hospice in Mission at the age of 85 years. She is survived by her children: Connie (Gerald) Blenkarn, Bob (Lisa) Engel, Debbie (Tony) VanLaerhoven; eightgrandchildren; nine greatgrandchildren; her sister Rose Peppler; sistesr-in-law: Vilma Nahirney, Effie Engel and Violet Engel; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Bill, in 2004, her father and mother, Emilie and Jacob Weitzel, her sisters Elsie, Esther and Ramona, brother Bill, and numerous sister and brother-in-laws. Edna has lived in Agassiz since 1955 and has established many close friendships within the community. Memorial service will be held on Friday, December 21st, at 1:00 at Christ Lutheran Church on Charles Street in Chilliwack. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edna’s memory to the Christ Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or to the Canadian Cancer Society. MINTER Jean

(1921-2012) Jean Minter (nÊe Bugera) passed away peacefully on June 17, 2012 at the age of MINTER 90. Predeceased by her husband, Glen, Jean is lovingly remembered by daughters: Margaret Ann (Bud) and Barbara (Bill); her grandsons: Michael (Robyn) and David; and her great-grandson: Henry Glen. She is survived by her sisters: Alexandra and Betty. Jean was born in Ethelbert, Manitoba, the fifth daughter in a family of six. Her family moved to Schumacher, Ontario where her father worked in the mines. Jean graduated with honours from high school and went on to train as a nurse at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. After graduation in 1945, Jean nursed in Timmins, Winnipeg, and Nelson before moving to Chilliwack in 1948. She met and married Glen Minter in 1950 and they had two daughters. After Glen’s sudden death in 1964, Jean returned to nursing at the Chilliwack General Hospital. She took time out to study public health nursing at UBC in 1968 then returned to work on a variety of floors at the hospital. Jean instilled her love of learning and travel in her daughters. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. The Rev. Elizabeth Piwowar of St. Michael’s Anglican Church in Canmore Alberta officiated at a family graveside service in Chilliwack. Friends wishing to remember Jean may make donations to the Chilliwack Animal Safe Haven, 49843 Chilliwack Central Rd, Chilliwack BC V2P 6H3 or www.thesafehaven.ca where her companion cat, Jezebel, has found a happy home.

PURVIS John Michael

It is with great sadness that we announce John Michael Purvis passed away peacefully on PURVIS December 7, 2012 at Chilliwack General Hospital. John was born in England but soon made Canada his home and proudly served this nation for 23 years. A retired sergeant of the Canadian Armed Forces, John was a true soldier and fighter through to the end. John is lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Gladys; his five children and six grandchildren.

RAKE ‘Bunny’ Janet Rose

‘Bunny’ Janet Rose Rake, late of Chilliwack, died in the arms of her loving husband, Jack RAKE Rake, on Dec. 14, 2012. Her love and brilliant smile will be missed by her three older sisters: Jacqueline (Peter) Bax, Gail (Ernie) Proctor and Helen (Howard) Humphries. Bunny was predeceased by her parents Hans and Violet Solvang and her son-in-law Norman Le May. Bunny, who was born in Gainsborough, Sask. in 1939, is survived by her three children: Rick (Kathleen) Rake, Rosemarie Le May and Jim (Holly) Rake and eight grandchildren Braeden Rake, Jesse Rake, Kristina Le May, Jonathan Le May, Kenny Le May, Alex Rake, Steven Beketa and Andrea Beketa. Following her career with Poseidon Shipping Lines in Montreal, Bunny and Jack moved to the coal-mining hamlet of Sparwood, B.C. in 1969 and later moved to Williams Lake where she worked in the hospital’s medical records department. She enjoyed almost 20 years of retirement in Chilliwack. A funeral service is set for 2:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2012 at Henderson’s Funeral Home in Chilliwack. Public viewing is from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday (Dec. 20) at the funeral home. Donations can be made in Bunny’s name to Crystal Gala Foundation (breast health unit based at Abbotsford Regional Hospital). It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frank Royle, on Monday ROYLE December 10, 2012 in Chilliwack General Hospital. He was born in Manchester, England, in August 1934 and came to Canada in 1976 and was joined by with his wife and two daughters in 1977. He was a devoted husband and was married for 54 years and is survived by his wife Eunice; daughters: Judie (Andrew) Bumby and Sue (Jason Oke) Sandar; and six grandchildren. He will be missed every minute of every day. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister. His pleasure came from helping people, he was very kind and patient and enjoyed volunteering in the community and at Cheam Village. He was also a member of the Agassiz-Harrison Senior Peer Support group and was the founder of the Seniors & Teens Lunches and the Seniors Only lunches in Agassiz. A private family ceremony will be held at McLean’s Funeral Services in Chilliwack and a Celebration of Life will be held on 22nd December, 2012 in the Royal Legion Hall, Highway 9, Agassiz, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. We thank Dr. Sean Larsen, family doctor, and Dr. James Bond, Head of Thoracic Surgery at Surrey Memorial Hospital, for all the years of excellent care. We would also like to thank the 5th Floor staff of Chilliwack General Hospital for all the care they gave him. In lieu of flowers please consider sending a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society.
