Royal collections from Royal City residents are part of an exhibit honouring Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee at the New Westminster Museum and Archives. From Paper to Diamond: The 60-Year Reign of Queen Elizabeth II will open on Oct. 24 and run until Nov. 25. It will show off some of the museum’s rarely seen British Royals memorabilia as well as local collectors, including Linda Cooper who remembers seeing the Queen during her visit to New Westminster in 1971. “My mother and I were waiting on the parkade watching the Queen step off the Royal Britannia—my mom was jumping with excitement,” said Cooper in a museum press release. Museum curator Oana Capota will also put on a guided tour of the exhibit on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 3 p.m., where she’ll tell the stories behind the artifacts and also show some additional treasures from the museum’s vault. Fashion historian Ivan Sayers will give a presentation on royalty and its influence on fashion showcasing influential royal women from 1840 to 2000 on Saturday, Nov. 3, 11 a.m. To register for the programs call the museum at 604-527-4640. Admission is by donation. For more information call the museum or visit its website, www. newwestpcr.ca/culture/museum_and_archives.php.
