Coach’s Comment Nanaimo Clippers @ Alberni Valley Bulldogs September 29, 2012 @ 7:00pm

This is the first regular season meeting between the Clippers and the Bulldogs. Judging from the spirited exhibition games between these two island rivals, the fan are the ones that will benefit from the 8 regular season match-ups. Going into weekend action, the Bulldogs are one point ahead of Nanaimo but the Clippers have three games in hand already. Key off-season additions for the Clippers have been 92 F Reid Sturos who has 4 points in 4 games and a commitment to Michigan Tech next season and 93 G Jayson Argue who has appeared in all 4 games for Nanaimo posting a 3-1 record with a GAA of 1.76. The Bulldogs have exploded out the gates with the most goals for in the BCHL. Leading the charge are third-year Bulldog Lars Hepso with 7 goals, rookie Nathan Craft with 4 (including the game winner in Surrey on Sunday) and Evan Tironese with 3. Be sure to come out on Saturday for some great Bulldogs hockey and a chance to help Angel raise some much need funds for the “This One’s For Jeneece” cause. Sponsored by:

Bulldogs moves bolster roster The Alberni Valley Bulldogs have made a slew of roster changes as they prepares to face division rivals Cowichan Valley Capitals and Nanaimo Clippers this weekend. The Bulldogs re-assigned forward Michael Sandor to the Penticton Lakers of the KIJHL Junior B league. He will remain an affiliate player with the Bulldogs unless another Junior A team picks up his playing rights. The move was needed to reduce the roster to make way for players returning from injured reserve, Bulldogs head coach Kevin Willison said in a release. The team also re-assigned forward Jon Brumwell to the Campbell River Storm of the VIJHL Junior

Brumwell was identified at the Alberni Valley Bulldogs 2012 spring identification camp after spending the 2011-12 season with the Phoenix Junior Coyotes U18 program. “Jon is a great kid who needs to identify his game to play at the Junior A level,” Willison said. “Jon will work hard to improve his game in hopes to be in a Bulldogs uniform again sometime soon.” It wasn’t all subtractions though. The team added

forward Chris Tracy from Marlton, New Jersey. Tracy played the majority of the 2011/12 season with the Langley Rivermen, where he recorded 15 goals and 13 assists in 47 games in his rookie year. Tracy was released by the Rivermen at the start of the season due to roster space issues and also appeared in four games for the Surrey Eagles. Tracy started practice with the Bulldogs last week. ‘Jon will work hard to improve his game...’

This beautiful September weather continues to keep those golf clubs in use. It is going to be sad to have to put them away for the winter. But no matter how long and how good the golf season is, winter is inevitable. So take advantage of these beautiful evenings and shoot a round of golf. Ladies night at Hollies Golf course will continue until the end of September with a start time of 5:30 p.m. Sandy Toombs won the “B” division with Donna Shannon coming in a close second. Carol Bouchard won the “A” division with a score

of 36, followed by LaDonna Knutson. Longest putt, sponsored by A Step Above, was won by Karen Vandermolen. Lisa Young took home the second closest to the pin award, sponsored by Sunnydale Golf and Country Club and Rhonda Holcombe won the second closest to the pin prize, sponsored by Safeway. Tineke Rodger took home the longest drive of the night, sponsored by Tim Hortons. Mary Ann McConnell and Sue Steinhauer are still tied at the top of the ringer board at a score of 28. Ladies night has raised a total of $500 to date for Ty Watson House. In addition to raising money for the Ty Watson House, there is a monthly 50/50 draw, with the proceeds going to the

SPCA. The deuce pot still hasn’t been won and stands at $225. We still have a couple of weeks left in the season and will be a really nice pot for a lucky golfer to take home. For all of the Beach Boy fans, you might know the song Good Vibrations. The song was written because Brian Wilson’s mother had good feelings towards animals. I was told recently that I had good vibrations. Could it be because I have three dogs and one cat? I also help take care of Sylvestor, our resident cat at the office. A cat that lives in the wild beside my house has also adopted me. It helps to prove my theory that golfers are a very giving bunch and support many worthwhile causes.
