The Ram Creek Hot Springs have always been a mystery - just who was it that carved the pools out of the hillside? But now that mystery has been destroyed in a recent landslide between July 12 and 16, and pool-goers will only have memories of the isolated hot pools. Communication director for the Ministry of Environment, Suntanu Dalal, said BC Parks last attended the springs on July 12, and found the pools intact as usual. It was reported on July 16 that a slide in the area had torn through the pools, reducing them to a flattened, rocky area. The springs are found within the Ram Creek Ecological Reserve. Dalal said there are no plans to reconstruct the ponds at this time, but BC Parks will be doing research to see if the loss of the ponds is affecting drainage. “BC Parks is evaluating the impacts of the event on the natural values, he said. The road leading up to the pools was destroyed by the slide. It will not be reconstructed, and Dalal said it has been listed as closed indefinitely. Dalal said the earliest report of a pool at Ram Creek can be traced back to 1957. The private, lesser-known cousin to the Lussier Hot Springs were being enjoyed well before the area was made an Ecological Reserve in 1971.
