FLIPPED OVER…A semi transport truck carrying a roller coaster for West Coast Amusements flipped over after exiting Highway 97 C onto a runaway lane near Brenda Mine earlier this week. It was heading east on the Connector when it began experiencing difficulty, headed up the very steep exit lane and then rolled back down. The driver was rattled but uninjured.

Five-car pileup on Springfield Avenue A multi-vehicle crash shut down a busy road, knocked out power lines and sent six people to hospital Wednesday night. Kelowna RCMP headed to the five vehicle crash, shortly after 6 p.m., June 27. “The investigation is ongoing in regard to how the crash happened but speed appears to have been a factor,” said Const. Kris Clark. “The information I have suggests that six persons—unknown age/gender—were taken to hospital with minor/ moderate non-life threatening injuries.” Although there were few serious injuries, traffic was snarled for some time as Springfield Road was shut down between Dillworth Drive and Durnin Road, so crews could deal with another issue. Those who lived in the area had to contend with a blackout, Staff Sgt. Blake MacLeod explained, as there were downed power lines. FortisBC worked into the wee hours of the night, ensuring power lines were made safe before the road was opened to traffic.

mixed together. “We had a call to this business for a spill of a couple products. One we know is chlorine, the other one is a citrus cleaning solution containing citric acid. The two of them mixed, giving off a vapour that was a respiratory irritant,” said Wilde. The deputy fire chief added that the mixture can also create a rash or burning sensation. About six other businesses east of Sun Valley Foods were also evacuated as a precaution. “It’s a big volume

But we are aware that the substances that we’re dealing with do have an after effect that can mitigate itself after the fact.,” said Braithwaite. “We anticipate that we’re going to transport three patients to the Kelowna General Hospital; we’re assessing 33 other patients that we may or may not transport to the hospital.” At 4:40 p.m. the air quality in the building was deemed safe and employees were allowed to return to the building.
