NWPD to investigate New Westminster police have been called upon to conduct an external investigation into an incident involving Prince George RCMP. Four members of the NWPD’s major crime unit have traveled to Prince George to begin the investigation into a complaint about the arrest of a youth involving a police service dog. Prince George RCMP say at about 11:30 p.m. on May 11 they responded to a call alleging two females had been sprayed in the face with bear mace at a local carnival.
Police, including a service dog, did a search for the suspect and “established a track which led them to a locked compound where a suspect was located.” The RCMP release went on to say the dog was used to assist in the arrest and the suspect, a 12-year-old girl, was bitten on the leg. A can of bear mace was later seized. On June 7, the girl’s mother made a public complaint and the public complaints commissioner was noti¿ed. New Westminster police say they are not in position to provide any additional information.

School heads shuffle There will be some administrative shufÀing at a few New Westminster elementary schools when students arrive for classes in September. The movement was created with the appointment of Jacob Sol as district principal. Chris Evans will take over as principal at Richard McBride. Jenny Richter has been appointed principal of Connaught Heights to replace Evans. Her current position as vice-principal at John Robson will be ¿lled by Herbert Spencer vice-principal Paul Manville. Patti Peterson, currently a teacher at McBride, will take Manville’s position.
