✞ Obituaries BALAKSHIN Era
BISSCHOP Maria
(nee Dieff) Era Balakshin passed away on Monday, May 28th, 2012 at Chilliwack, B.C. at the age of 92 BALAKSHIN years. She is survived by her four children, Alex (Carol), Michael (Lebby), Bill (Janice) and Betty (Rene); her ten grandchildren Elvira, Sarah (Chris), Sheila (Cory), Laura (Matt), Julia, Andrew, Jim, Tom, Mike and Christine as well as three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Nicholas, her sister Nina, and her brother George. Era was born in Manchuria, China on Feb. 5, 1920. In 1925, she immigrated to Calgary, Alberta with her Russian parents, brother and sister. She was a school teacher in rural Alberta and Burnaby. Era married Nick in 1944 and settled in Chilliwack where she remained for the rest of her life. She was a longtime member of the Davis Ford Circle. She especially enjoyed organizing family gatherings on the farm. A memorial service to honour her life will be held on Monday, June 4th at 1:00 pm from the Chapel of Henderson’s Funeral Home, 45901 Victoria Ave. in Chilliwack. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, memorial donations may be made in her name to the B.C. Children’s Hospital or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The family wishes to thank the staff at Cascade Lodge for the loving care they gave to our mother for the past 3 years..
(nee Van Oosterom) Maria Bisschop (nee Van Oosterom) passed away at 6:00 am on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at Chilli- BISSCHOP wack General Hospital at the age of 77 years. She was born November 1, 1934 in Krimpen aan de Ijssel, the Netherlands. Maria is survived by her children, Jenny (Chris), Bill (Hannie), Diane (Casey), Marian (Bill), Joan (Ed) and Barb (Gerald); also 36 grandchildren and 72 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband John (Aug. 2007); parents, Willem and Berendina Van Oosterom, and her brother, Cornelius on April 21, 2012. Condolences will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 7:30 pm at the Reformed Congregation in North America, 9696 Gibson Rd., Chilliwack. GUYETTE Alpha Lucile (Kay)
March 16, 1918 - May 4, 2012 Kay was born in Estevan, Saskatchewan to Herbert and Mae Tubbs. Kay had a brother Jim and a sister Vesta. She was married in 1935 to Leonard Kidder and they had 2 children, Robert and Ada Mae. In the early 50’s the family moved to the Fraser Valley in BC and Kay continued to work as a cook. She was later employed by Correction Services at Matsqui Institution as a guard. Kay volunteered with Abbotsford Community Services. She always loved to cook and in her retirement she provided cakes each week to her bridge club at the Friendship House in Abbotsford. After her daughter Ada Mae passed away from breast cancer in 1995 she moved to Chilliwack to be near her two granddaughters Bonnie Sibley and Michelle Rickaby. She lived in the Lynwood Retirement Home, then went to live in Eden Care Home. Kay will be missed by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grand-

(nee Fulton) Muriel Beatrice Hagerty (nee Fulton), born in Moose Jaw, Sask. on February 10, 1928, passed HAGERTY away peacefully on May 25, 2012 in Chilliwack, BC. Predeceased by her husband Thomas and sisters Mary and Nana. Muriel is survived by children Ken (Jan), Bryan (Glenda), Brenda (Thomas), Karen (Rod) and Jim (Darlene); 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers Torrence and Thomas (Sheila), as well as nieces, nephews and dear friends. Muriel was an accomplished Hairdresser and Seamstress who will be remembered as a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister by her family. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Hazelwood Grove in Chilliwack. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of your choice.

May 12, 1942 - May 28, 2012 “On the wings of a snow white dove,” John left to walk with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. ORRITT He leaves his loving wife Gloria, 4 children, Lorelei, Phillip, Jo-Ellen, Cory and 3 step-children, Michael, Teresa and Ellen. He also enjoyed his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At John’s request, no service will be held. John was born September 11, 1945 in Ophuesdan, Holland. John passed away in Royal VERMEER Columbian Hospital on Saturday, May 26, 2012. He will be missed by his wife Carroll of 43 years, by his daughter Melinda and her
husband Scott, his son John, his daughter Heather and her husband Steve and his daughter Angela, his 9 grandchildren, Dakota, Brandon, Taylor, Brianna, Braxton, Haley, Jayda, Parker and Cole. John will be missed by his brothers, sisters and their spouses, many, many nieces, nephews and friends and their children. John was “Uncle” to so many, and 1 Uncle in Holland. He was predeceased by a baby son in 1975, his Father and Mother; Gerrit & Wilhelmina Vermeer, his sister and brother in law; Sien and Arie Arends. John immigrated to Canada and settled in Chilliwack in 1953 at the age of 8, with his parents and siblings; they sailed across the Atlantic to Montreal then traveled across Canada by train to Chilliwack. John spent most of his life in Construction and for a time he owned a shoe repair shop in Merritt, B.C and Chilliwack, B.C. John was very involved with chuck wagon and chariot racing, he loved to hunt and go fishing. John and Carroll and their children and grandchildren loved camping. John put his everything into whatever he did. He was a great man and touched the lives of many, many people. He lived his life giving his heart to all. He now has gone to be with the Lord. Service will be Friday, June 1, 2012 at 2:00 pm, First Ave. Pentecostal Assembly, 46510 First Avenue, Chilliwack, B.C. WESTER Marcel
In a state of deep peace and acceptance, Marcel Wester effortlessly and graciously let go on May WESTER 26, 2012 at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver. Marcel was born in Nieuwe Niedorp (NL) June 23, 1966, the ninth of ten children. He grew up on a diary farm and had a natural love for animals, nature and farming, eventually completing his degree in agriculture. He moved to Canada in 1997 and immediately found a home in the pristine Ryder Lake, employment with Batavia Greenhouse Builders and love with the woman he would spend the rest of his life with. Marcel always had an innate gift with animals from early on in his life both befriending them and doing dog rescue rehabilitation. He was deeply loved by his wife, Teri, stepdaughter Krista, son-in-law Sean and adored by his grandchildren Isabella and Grayson. He will be missed by his large family in Holland and Canada. Marcel, you will be greatly missed. You live deep in our hearts and all that you are is a part of us now. We are forever touched and changed by having you in our lives. We are blessed. We love you now and forever. A Memorial is being held at False Creek Community Centre on Granville Island on Sunday, June 3rd at 12:30 pm.
