Interesting art on display

Great Strides Walk to help fight CF

Two diverse art shows are on display at the New Westminster Public Library this month. On the Ramp is for die-hard hockey fans who can’t wait for October and next season, that’s if there isn’t a lockout or strike come opening night. Joe Canuck, more properly known as Andy Wong, will be displaying his exhibition of limited edition hockey prints called “Someday It Will Happen.” The other show features the landscapes of Peter Csizmar and Sasha Pupovac in the reference department. Csizmar grew up in Vojvodina, a beautiful province in Serbia full of textures, earth colours, Àowers and ¿elds that inÀuence his work. Although Pupovac was born in Yugoslavia, he has fallen in love with B.C. landscapes.

Man stabbed A 38-year-old man was stabbed in Queensborough on May 17. Police responded to a domestic dispute in the 1300-block of Dan Lee Avenue around 3 a.m., and took a 27-year-old woman into custody. The man was transfered to a local hospital, where has was listed in serious condition.

The Great Strides Walk, in support of cystic ¿brosis research will be held in New Westminster on Sunday, May 27. CF Canada supports this annual event, where chapters across the country organize community walks as a fundraiser and as a reminder of the challenges CF patients and their families face every day. Participants form teams in support/memory of speci¿c CF patients, and are encouraged to join the “Reddy For a Cure” team in honour of New Westminster’s Eva Markvoort (1984-2010). Participants in the local walk for cystic Àbrosis are Eva was born and raised being encouraged to join the’Reddy For a Cure’ team in honour of Eva Markvoort, who died in 2010. in New West, attended Herbert Spencer, Sir Richard McBride and NWSS.
