Jewels nearly upset giants The Salmon Arm Secondary Junior Jewels were strong at the 2012 Junior Girls’ High School Basketball Valley Playdowns hosted at the Jackson Campus gym Friday and Saturday – but weren’t guaranteed a berth at the provincials. The Jewels, who won the North Zone during league play, defeated Sa-Hali of Kamloops 30-20, with Alyson Bannister named player of the game. Next was Penticton, ranked eighth, who Salmon Arm defeated 48-31. Player of the game was Carly McDonald. In the final game versus number-one ranked South Kam, the final score was 52-42 for South Kam.
