Baan Ice

This restaurant’s young owner, “Ice,” brings his grandparent’s recipes to the hip nightlife neighborhood of Thonglor. Expect to taste Southern specialties like khua kling (stir-fried grain-fed 150-day Australian beef), pad liang gung siab (stir-fried Southern herbs with dried shrimps) and khao yam Khun Puu (herbs with rice and dipping sauce) in a relaxed setting.

With a chic but comfortable ambiance, varied menu, well-rounded wine list and “we aim to please” staff, the place works to make sure every diner feels like the restaurant is created especially with them in mind. The menu changes its mains, pizzas and pastas frequently enough that you never tire of the offerings. Biscotti may no longer be the flavor of the day, but, where it matters, it still epitomizes good taste.

Pendant orb lighting, black-and-white-marble floor, crisp white tablecloths and lots of brass and hardwood serve as a backdrop for a simple, satisfying menu that’s heavy on beef. The “Capital” beef tartar comprises chopped wagyu steak, egg yolk and the chef’s own chipotle sauce while the wagyu Bolognese pasta and Kamichiku wagyu steak continue the theme. Old-school cocktails and plenty of single-malt Scotch complete this power-lunch-friendly picture.
