Homeschool Mom & HomeWorks Consultant

I first encountered BJU Press at a homeschool convention. We had started our homeschooling journey when our oldest was four, but by the time my son entered sixth grade, we knew that our curriculum was not a good fit. Something had to change. I had purposed to give my children a quality education with a biblical foundation that prepared them well for life, but when I arrived at the convention, I felt defeated and unsure of what to do next.

But then, things changed. That convention turned out to be a significant turn in my journey. After sitting with a kind Homeworks consultant who patiently listened to my children’s needs for hours, I felt the courage to begin again. The consultant ensured that I left our meeting with everything I needed, and I started the next school year with the BJU Press curriculum. My heart soared as I saw my children learn to love school again. We started with me teaching them their courses directly, and my children thrived on the material. We started the school year with a renewed enthusiasm, and my kids couldn’t get enough of their BJU Press courses. We eventually switched to video courses, which was one of the greatest blessings of the entire journey. My kids were now learning a wealth of information that I could never have taught them on my own. Nine years later…our family has grown. We now have eight children—two of which have entered college and are thriving academically. My children can communicate with other kids of all ages, and our home has become a safe environment where they can learn about Jesus every day. Our family has also grown closer together as my children have learned more about God and the world around them.

Our BJU Press experience has given my children a firm foundation in God’s Word as well as academic excellence. While I would never state that homeschooling is easy, I can say with certainty that God has sustained our family day to day as we’ve navigated the thrills and challenges of homeschooling.

To any mother considering homeschooling, I have to say that homeschooling is absolutely worth it. It can be done day by day. Your school days will not look identical to mine…and that’s okay! God has chosen you to educate your children, and you are the best person for this important task.

Now, I’ve become a Homeworks Consultant myself, and I cherish the opportunity to help families thrive as parents prepare their children for spiritual success. When the days are long, remember that God will guide you and empower you to show your children His love. He will give you the grace that you need so you can give your children the education that they need.
