Oltre 220 giovani artisti, ospiti della Città di Ancona dal 6 giugno al 7 luglio 2013, per l’evento Mediterranea 16, oltre 220 tra enti pubblici ed istituzioni culturali le realtà che hanno selezionato e finanziato le singole opere e gli artisti: questi sono i grandi numeri della Biennale dei Giovani Artisti dell’Europa e del Mediterraneo. Una grande occasione per attivare il protagonismo dei giovani artisti appartenenti a questa specifica area geografica che, nell’attuale momento storico, è caratterizzata da una forte complessità sociale, economica e politica che colpisce in maniera diversa ed in molti casi drammatica quasi tutti i paesi. Una grande occasione per la Città di Ancona e per l’intera Regione per concepirsi in un contesto ampio, per riscoprirsi e guardarsi in un orizzonte vasto, attraverso le forme più originali di produzione del pensiero: la Biennale proporrà eventi, opere, performances e creazioni culturali afferenti a discipline artistiche diverse, il linguaggio dell’arte e i giovani artisti porteranno le voci e gli echi di altri territori, le risonanze di realtà lontane, a volte remote. A noi l’obbligo di metterci in ascolto, di porre attenzione a quei linguaggi: non soltanto artistici, ma evidentemente anche culturali, sociali e politici. Osservare per produrre nuova conoscenza e consapevolezza dei nuovi bisogni e delle spinte che ne derivano. Perché solo la vera consapevolezza porta a inventare forme e strumenti di dialogo e di sviluppo reale, locale e globale. È questa la funzione di utilità pubblica che chiediamo restituisca l’investimento fatto in cultura, a sostegno di questo progetto, dal sistema degli enti di governo del territorio, una funzione preziosa, anche al di là della pur evidente e importante ricaduta in termini di immagine e di promozione turistica, nonché di incremento economico connesso a tante presenze in città e nell’intero territorio regionale.
More than 220 young artists are hosted by the city of Ancona from June 6th to July 7th 2013 for the event Mediterranea 16, more than 220 among public authorities and cultural institutions are the selecting and financing bodies for each single artwork: these are the exciting figures of the Biennial of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean. Mediterranea 16 is a great occasion to activate the self-promotion of young artists belonging to this specific geographic area that, in the present times, is characterized by a strong social, economic and political complexity that strikes in different, and in many cases dramatic, ways almost all the Mediterranean countries. Mediterranea 16 is a great occasion for the city itself and for the whole region to rethink themselves in a wider context, to rediscover the territories in a wider horizon and through the more original thinking processes: the Biennial will propose events, artworks, performances and cultural outputs coming from different disciplines and the language of arts is, with their young authors, the vehicle for the echo of the voices of other lands, the resonances of remote realities. We must put ourselves to listen attentively to them: we have to drain our attention to those languages, not only artistic but also clearly cultural, social and political. We have to observe in order to produce new knowledge and awareness about new instances and the pushes deriving from. Because only a sincere awareness leads to invent relation forms and tools for a tangible –local and global– development. This is the function of public utility that we demand back after the investment in culture we operated to sponsor the project: we demand a precious function, that goes further the evident and important spin-off for our image and touristic promotion, beyond the economic spill-over connected to all the presences in town and in the whole region.
