Please provide a few sentences about what your company is doing in CEE? A captive, multifunction Competence Centre located in Budapest, Hungary. 350+HC doing high value add activities in multiple business lines: Service Delivery, Supply Chain, Finance, IT, Marketing, HR, etc. Explain why your company set up operations in the specific city and any specific factors that influenced the company’s decision: In 2008, when the Competence center in Hungary was started, Lexmark already had a global, transactional SSC in The Phillipines. The aim with Budapest was to provide EMEA coverage in languages other than English, and focus on high-value added work vs transactional. Language skills, level of education, and good location with many established peers have been the main factors in choosing Budapest, Hungary. How will you develop in the next 2-3 years? We transitioned from expanding HC ever year to rather changing the mix, continuously increasing the variety and level of jobs performed - up to profiles requiring unique expertise - while enjoying only a relatively modest HC growth. I expect a similar trend in the next 2 years.

Employee Issues. How has this changed in the last 1-2 years, and what are the likely employment issues expected during the next few years. 350+ employees, slightly increasing/ flat. Expect a similar trend. Finding employees is a challenge, but very high capabilities and skills are available. Biggest surprises about setting up or operating SSC centre in CEE: It works well. And it is not a surprise!
Do you provide external services to unrelated companies? We do not perform BPO activities. Even though the center itself is captive, but Lexmark uses a hybrid model where Payroll, IT helpdesk, Logistics, and Call Centers are outsourced.
Since 2014, Péter is leading a 350+ employees Competence Center in Budapest. Péter joined Lexmark in 2008, and held leadership positions in supply chain: customer service center, planning, strategy; as well as in the area of Quality, Environment, and Operational Excellence/Lean. Prior to Lexmark, Csucska held various quality, engineering and supply chain positions in the manufacturing sector with Sanyo, GE and Diebold-Nixdorf. Péter is a graduate of GE Healthcare’s Operational Management Leadership Program (OMLP). Péter holds a University degree with Honors in Chemistry. He is COPC 5.0, APICS CSCP, Six Sigma Green Belt certified, and is an IS0 9001/14000 Lead Auditor.

CEE as a region is cost competitive, but not low cost. If cost is the single most important factory, it might be not a good fit. Do not underestimate the skills and capabilities of talent in CEE. Whatever is the activity, most probably there are people who can do it. If they can not immediately, the can learn quickly. Make sure to understand the specific environment/ city. Is it a place where your expats – and their families - can have a life? Is air travel from the HQ and other strategic locations convenient, or not?
