tional and lower-end tactical operations have been successful, I am seeing more advanced roles being staffed in the centers as talented employees start making inroads into the value pyramid. In the next years, we will continue seeing pragmatic and broader adoption of robotics and artificial intelligence based on OCR solutions in the region. Given the rapid growth of technology and service-oriented startups in the region, it is only natural that big business SSC’s will start working with local solution providers to innovate customized solutions. I can also see a few business trends scaling to global adoption after being prototyped in the region.

Please provide a few sentences about what your company is doing in CEE? We started our European Shared Services center in Wroclaw in 2012, primarily supporting EMEA operations. Over time the center has grown to be a truly multifunctional GBS site covering select global and COE services. Operations are built around the three focus areas of Customer, Supplier and Associate Services. Supported teams include F&A, Business Planning and Analysis, HR lifecycle, Customer Service, Supply Chain, E Commerce, Supplier Compliance and other smaller teams. The growth across the initial years was modest but very impactful. With a US$12 billion acquisition of Carefusion in 2015, there was a significant momentum in the growth of the center to 350+ employees currently. We have recently moved to a brand new technology enabled office building in Wroclaw where we intend to build a health-focused and engaging work environment. Explain why your company set up operations in the specific city and any specific factors that influenced the company’s decision: Key reasons behind the choice of location were access to highly educated and engaged workforce based on early mover success stories. Regular inflow of fresh graduates from Wro-

How will you develop in the next 2-3 years? The CEE region and more importantly Poland is going through a Business Services boom over the past few years. Most of the centers who invested in the initial years have been expanding, and many second/ third tier cities that attracted little interest in the past have been actively attracting investors. I see the industry has matured significantly with more appetite towards Robotics, Business Intelligence, machine learning and other fast-evolving trends given the investments in cloud-based ERP solutions. 3 specific bits of advice to other firms considering setting up SSC/BPO operations in CEE: Build a long term value proposition - not just a short-term labor arbitrage model; test the validity of the model by engaging with some players already in the target market. Invest time and energy in building leadership layers smartly, since this is a people business and the onsite leadership who translate the global vision to the entry-level employees can make or break the model. Engage with the workforce, local government and universities early to ensure your approach to resourcing/policies are most optimal – iterate the model over the initial quarters to localize your practices without negotiating on corporate values/culture.
