CHERS AMIS, Je vous écris à titre de porte-parole de l'Atelier lyrique! C'est un honneur, certes, mais c'est plus encore! Été 2002, j'entamais l'apprentissage de l'opéra Carmen, parce que j'allais partir en tournée avec l'Atelier à travers l'Est canadien! Qui aurait pu prédire, alors, que j'écrirais ces quelques lignes entre deux représentations des Pêcheurs de perles à l'Opéra national du Rhin, onze ans plus tard? Grâce à l'Atelier, j'ai développé un savoir-faire, des contacts, des amitiés, des connaissances musicales d'une importance capitale pour qui veut faire carrière à l'opéra. Ces trois années, durant lesquelles j'ai pu parfaire mon art, ont été cruciales aussi sur le plan de la confiance en soi. Un artiste, et à mon avis, tout être humain, doit connaître ses forces et ses faiblesses afin de bien savoir se vendre et se mettre en valeur! L'Atelier m'a permis de prendre le recul nécessaire! Grâce à lui, je peux briller sur les plus grandes scènes du monde, et j'espère bien pouvoir enfin leur rendre la pareille! Je ne peux imaginer plus belle façon de montrer mon appréciation, qu'en collaborant à nouveau avec eux à titre de porte-parole! DEAR FRIENDS, I am writing to you as spokesman for the Atelier lyrique! It certainly is an honour, but it is also so much more! In the summer of 2002, I was beginning to learn the opera Carmen, as I was preparing to embark on a tour with the Atelier through Eastern Canada! Who could have predicted, back then, that I would be writing these lines between two performances of Les Pêcheurs de perles at the Opéra national du Rhin, eleven years later? Thanks to the Atelier, I was able to develop my knowhow, contacts, friendships, and musical knowledge that are of paramount importance for those of us who want to make a career of opera. The three years I spent at the Atelier, during which I was able to refine my art, also played a key role in building my self-confidence. Thanks to the Atelier lyrique, I can shine on the world's greatest stages, and I hope to be able to do the same for you! Artists, and, in my opinion, all human beings, must be aware of their strengths and weaknesses in order to really know how to sell and showcase themselves! The Atelier allowed me to maintain a necessary critical distance! Thanks to the Atelier, I can shine on the world's greatest stages, and I hope to be able to do the same for them! I cannot imagine a better way to show my appreciation than by collaborating with

Boursière de la Fondation Jacqueline Desmarais, elle a remporté de nombreux prix, dont le 2e prix au Concours de musique du Canada en 2008. E M MA C HA R MEZZO-SOPRANO - 2E ANNÉE ///////////////////// Native de Kitchener (Ont.), elle détient un Artist Diploma à la prestigieuse faculté du College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) de Cincinnati dans la classe de Thomas Baresel, où elle a chanté le rôle-titre dans La Cenerentola et celui de Sesto dans Giulio Cesare. En 2012-2013 elle faisait ses débuts à l’Opéra de Montréal dans le rôle de Rosette (Manon) et pour l’Atelier lyrique, elle était soliste dans la tournée de Rossini et ses muses et incarnait The Mother dans Amahl and the Night Visitors. Au cours de la saison 2012-2013 à l’Atelier lyrique, elle a participé à la tournée de Rossini et ses muses, incarné les rôles de Galatée (Acis et Galatée) et d’Amahl (Amahl and the Night Visitors), et assuré la doublure d’Adèle (La chauve-souris) à l’Opéra de Montréal. En 2013-2014 elle tient le rôle de Gretel (Hänsel et Gretel) à l’Atelier lyrique. ///////////////////////////////////////

During the 2012-2013 season at the Atelier lyrique, she was a soloist in the Rossini and his Muses tour, sang the role of Galatea (Acis and Galatea) and Amahl (Amahl and the Night Visitors), and she covered the role of Adele (Die Fledermaus) at the Opéra de Montréal. This season the sings Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel) at the Atelier lyrique. ///////////////////////////////////////////////////

JEAN-MICHEL RICHER TÉNOR - 3E ANNÉE ///////////////////////////// Ce ténor montréalais a passé l’été au Festival de musique de Chautauqua où il a interprété les rôles de Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) et du Chevalier de la Force (Dialogues des Carmélites). En septembre 2012, il chantait Gastone dans La traviata à l'Opéra de Montréal et cette saison, il fait partie de Falstaff et de Turandot dans les rôles de Bardolfo et de Pong, respectivement. Boursier de la Fondation Jacqueline Desmarais, il étudie sous la gouverne de Lyne Fortin et de Marlena Malas. /////////////////////////////////////////////
TENOR - 3RD YEAR ///////////////////////////// A native of Montreal, he spent the summer of 2013 at the Chautauqua Music Festival, where he performed Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) and Chevalier de la Force (Dialogues des Carmélites). In September 2012, he sang Gastone in the Opéra de Montréal's La Traviata and this season, he will take part in the productions of Falstaff and Turandot as Bardolfo and Pong, respectively. Last season, he made his debut with the Opéra de Montréal in the role of The Commissioner (La Traviata), also singing Bob (The Old Maid and the Thief) and Melchior (Amahl and the Night Visitors) with the Atelier lyrique. This season, he sings Peter (Hänsel und Gretel) with the Atelier lyrique, and Marcello (La Bohème) for the Jeunesses Musicales du Canada. //

TENOR - 1ST YEAR ///////////////////////////// A native of St. John’s (N.L.), Aaron Sheppard studied at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music with Sanford Sylvan and this past summer, he was a Young Artist with the prestigious Salzburg Festival’s Young Singers Project. Recent engagements include Dead Man Walking with the Opéra de Montréal and Ferrando in Così Fan Tutte with the Jeunesses Musicales du Canada. This season he sings Hadji in Lakmé and Pang in Turandot at the Opéra de Montréal. He is a current grant recipient of the Jacqueline Desmarais Foundation and of the McGill University Austrian Society. ////////////////////

Cette saison, elle participe à la préparation des choeurs (Lakmé, Turandot) et leur réchauffement (Falstaff, Porgy and Bess) à l’Opéra de Montréal, ainsi que la préparation musicale pour Hänsel et Gretel à l’Atelier lyrique.///////////
PIANO - 2ND YEAR /////////////////////////////// A native of Calgary (Alta.), Jennifer Szeto holds degrees from McGill University’s Schulich School of Music and the University of Toronto, and was seen last season in the Atelier lyrique's Visitors and Rossini and his Muses. She was an Emerging Artist at Green Mountain Opera Festival (Vermont) and received training at Institut Franz Schubert (Austria), Centre for Opera Studies in Italy, St. Andrews by the Sea Workshop, and Opera Nuova. This season, she is the rehearsal pianist for the Opéra de Montréal’s Lakmé and Turandot's chorus rehearsals and chorus warm-up pianist for Falstaff and Porgy and Bess. She assumes the musical preparation of the Atelier lyrique's Hänsel und Gretel.

RA C H È L E T R E M B L AY MEZZO-SOPRANO - 2E ANNÉE ///////////////////// Native de Chambord, elle a été stagiaire au Centre national d’insertion professionnelle d’artistes lyriques à Marseille. Elle a été lauréate des jeunes Ambassadeurs lyriques et a chanté en récital au Japon et en Chine. Elle a également créé le rôle de Mrs. Smith dans La cantatrice chauve de Gérard Calvi à l’Opéra de Montpellier en 2009. En 2012-2013 elle faisait ses débuts à l’Opéra de Montréal dans le rôle de Sister Lillianne (Dead Man Walking) et interprétait Ms. Todd (The Old Maid and the Thief) avec l’Atelier lyrique. Last season she debuted with the Opéra de Montréal singing Sister Lillianne (Dead Man Walking), and she sang the role of Ms. Todd (The Old Maid and the Thief) with the Atelier lyrique. This season, she is Mistress Bentson (Lakmé) and the Witch (Hänsel und Gretel). //////////////////

JOSH WHELAN BARYTON - 1ÈRE ANNÉE ////////////////////////// Natif de Halifax (N.-É.), Josh Whelan interprétait récemment les rôles-titres dans des productions de Don Giovanni (AEDO), Les noces de Figaro (COSI) et Aleko (Opera Five). Il a obtenu une maîtrise en interprétation de l’Université de Toronto grâce à une bourse Bombardier, et a chanté les rôles de Guglielmo (Così fan tutte) et Belcore (L’élixir d’amour). Il se perfectionne auprès de J. Patrick Raftery et l’été dernier l’a vu se produire dans de nombreux récitals et opéras, dont Carmen (Moralès / Le Dancaïre) au Saskatoon Opera. Il fait ses débuts à l'Opéra de Montréal dans le Mandarin (Turandot). ///
