PARTNERS 11 THE WORLD OF NEW HOLLAND AGRICULTURE

T

his is truly a shattering harvesting record: with 797.656 tonnes of wheat harvested in 8 hours, New Holland Agriculture has smashed the previous record by 120 tons. The world’s most powerful combine, the 653 hp CR10.90 has recaptured the harvesting record and has set an entirely new standard for the industry. “This record demonstrates the unsurpassed capacity and productivity of the CR10.90”, said Hedley Cooper, Head of Harvesting Product Management, “especially as the current record of 675.84 tonnes was broken after just six hours and 36 minutes!” The record was set in Lincolnshire, in the United Kingdom, on the HR Bourn and Sons Farm. The day was August 15th. The time at which the harvesting began: 11.17 am. The weather was variable: some sunshine, some showers, a temperature ranging from 18 to 21°C. The CR10.90’s average through put was 99.7 tonnes/hour and peaked at 135 tonnes/hour in a crop yielding an average of 9.95 tonnes/ha and an average moisture content of 16.2%. A new standard has been set.

New CR: enter a new harvesting dimension New Holland creates the best ever series of combine harvesters. With a 15 per cent rise in productivity and ultra comfortable cab.

W

ith the all-new CR series, New Holland has – literally – raised the bar in the harvesting world. This is no minor upgrade. The series has been totally renovated and has maximized the 40plus years of Twin RotorTM experience to bring a true revolution to the field. The six models of the range span from Class 7 to Class 10 machines: CR7.90, CR8.80, CR8.90, CR9.80, CR9.90 and the biggest flagship combine in the world, the CR10.90. All models feature the brand new Harvest SuiteTM Ultra cab that New Holland designed and created following long consultations with experienced operators and customers’ clinics. The cabin has curved, all-round windows for ultimate visibility. There are 6.3 square metres of glass, a seven per cent increase compared to

2

previous models. And to further improve visibility all the interior components of the cabin have been redesigned, to the point where even the floor slopes downwards to provide a lower and more complete

view of the feeding of the combine and the field. The cabin features a new harvesting console fitted with the famous forcebased CommandGripTM multifunction handle (see box). It also boasts the best

seat in the field, available in three different configurations, with the standard clothtrimmed version offering hours and hours of comfort, and the top of the range leather-trimmed seat offering ventilation, heating, vertical and horizontal travel, a complete active suspension and automatic weight adjustment for the best possible cushioning. Under the instructor seat the integrated fridge provides space for necessary

refreshments, but can also be removed for easy replenishment and washing. This is the ultimate harvesting cab, and a true achievement for the industry. “The new CR range is the culmination of 40 years of Twin Rotor™ technology,” stated Hedley Cooper, Head of Combine Harvester Product Management. “It offers the best of New Holland’s harvesting technologies: Twin Pitch rotors, Dynamic Feed Roll,

SmartTrax™ rubber tracks, Terraglide™ suspension, ECOBlue™ SCR and Hi-eSCR engine technologies – all working together to deliver the very best performance. All this is coupled with the Harvest Suite™ Ultra cab that redefines harvesting comfort. And with the capacity and performance of the CR10.90, you enter an entirely new harvesting dimension. You couldn’t ask for more.” In terms of performance the new series has an astounding array of features. The Dynamic Feed RollTM on-the-go mechanical stone protection system raises the CR’s massive capacity by feeding the rotors faster and more smoothly while removing stones with no stopping or hesitation. The new serrated blades on the roll are gentle on the crop, resulting in high-quality straw. This is achieved with no additional power consumption, resulting in higher capacity as well as better grain and straw quality than with the equivalent model of the same horsepower in the previous range. New Holland invented rotary

threshing and separation with Twin Rotor™ technology over 40 years ago, and has worked continuously to improve and refine it ever since. The twin pitch rotors feature 44 elements, and can raise productivity by up to 10 per cent in damp conditions. Switching from corn to grain configurations is simple, fast and effective. There is a special Opti-FanTM system to compensate for gravity when working uphill or downhill. Once a fan speed is set, it will automatically adjust according to the terrain conditions to minimize losses and optimize grain condition. The SmartTrax™ rubber tracks with Terraglide™ suspension system, standard on the flagship CR10.90 and available on the other models as an option, ensure excellent traction and low soil compaction while providing a silky smooth ride. The CR combines offer more horsepower than ever: from 449hp on the CR7. 90 to the massive 652hp of the flagship CR10.90. Five models feature New Holland’s Tier 4A ECOBlue™ SCR technology, while the flagship CR10.90 is equipped

with the Diesel Engine of the Year 2014 Cursor 16 with ECOBlue Hi-eSCR technology, already compliant with Tier 4B regulations. The engine features Common Rail technology for precise fuelling and outstandingly responsive performance, resulting in consistently high productivity in all field conditions. But the CR range is not heavy handed when it comes to fuel consumption. The highly efficient ECOBlueTM technology delivers impressive fuel savings. This reduces running costs and of course extends the range, also thanks to the large fuel tanks: 1,300 litres in

unloading auger to match the largest headers and tallest trailers. This, together with the ultrafast unloading speed of 142 litres/second, ensures extremely high productivity throughout the day’s – or night’s – work. For low visibility or night conditions, the lighting package has been precision engineered for maximum visibility of the entire header and the field ahead and behind, with long distance lights offering up to 500 metres’ visibility. There are also specific auger lights to assist the operator in unloading. And the package

the CR9.90 and the CR10.90. Speaking of capacity, the grain tank ranges from 11,500 litres in the CR7.90 to 14,500 litres in the CR9.90 and CR10.90. There is an extra-long folding 10-metre

comes in either HID or LED. All in all, the new CR range offers up to 15 per cent more productivity, an unparalleled level of comfort, and extreme all round performance.

A Harvesting Record that weighs 800 tons The world’s most powerful combine, the 653hp CR10.90, has recaptured the record for harvesting wheat at a rate of nearly 100 tons per hour: 797.656 tonnes in 8 hours. This truly impressive achievement (120 tons more than the previous record) was achieved using a mere 1.12 litres of fuel per tonne of grain harvested. The CR10.90 is equipped with New Holland’s unique Twin Rotor® technology featuring Twin Pitch High Performance rotors combined with the Dynamic Feed Roll™ system (DFR), which proved indispensable in breaking the record especially as the weather conditions deteriorated in the late afternoon. The extra-long 10 metre unloading auger and super-fast 142 litres/minute unloading speed made quick work of the constantly filling grain tank. The CR10.90 was also equipped with IntelliSteer™ fully integrated auto guidance, which ensures accuracy of 1-2 cm optimising the effectiveness of the 13.7 metre 840CD draper-header during every pass, the whole day long.

160 years of history The first Universal Exposition was held in London in 1851. The “Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of all Nations”, promoted by the Royal Society of Arts, took place in Hyde Park and lasted almost six months. It featured 28 different countries and over 6 million visitors. For the occasion, which was dedicated to new industrial technology, London's famed Crystal Palace was built, a construction of over 84,000 square metres. This first World Exhibition was so successful that other nations began to organise similar events, notably Paris, which in 1889 organised an Exposition Universelle to celebrate the centenary of the French Revolution. One of this event's legacies has come to be considered the symbol of Paris and indeed of France: the Eiffel Tower. The 1906 edition was focused on the theme of transport and was held in Milan, celebrating the recent opening of the Sempione Transalpine Tunnel, whose 19,803 metres made it the longest in the world, and which made possible the first direct rail connection between Milan and Paris. The Milan Exposition also left a lasting landmark: the Milan Aquarium, now one of the oldest in Europe. Given the increasing importance of these kinds of events, 31 nations signed the Paris Convention in 1928, establishing the rules which in future would have to be observed by organising countries, and founding the BIE – the Bureau International des Expositions. Over the years many other cities have organised important editions: Brussels, for example, organised the first post-World War Two Exposition in 1958, and the most successful edition of the 20th century was the Montreal event in 1967. And so, over 160 years, Universal Expositions have established themselves as global opportunities for confronting shared themes and problems crucial to human progress, in a scientific and educational manner. Welcome to Tier 4B Introducing the new ECOBlue™ Hi-eSCR technology.

I

t was 2006 when New Holland first launched its Clean Energy Leader® strategy. Since then, year on year, the brand has consistently delivered: less emissions, higher efficiency, lower fuel consumption. With the new ECOBlue™ Hi-eSCR technology, New Holland takes a huge leap into the future and introduces Tier 4B farming. This is the stage where – compared to Tier 1 – nitrogen oxides (NO X )

and particulate matter are reduced by 95 per cent. Nitrogen oxides are gasses produced when the engine reaches its highest operating temperature, and are among the main causes of acid rain and the shrinking ozone layer. Since the introduction of Tier 1, New Holland has reduced these emissions by 180 times in the last 15 years. This means that a Tier 4B machine can run every day

for six months and produce the same emissions it would have produced in a single working day in 1996. The new ECOBlue™ Hi-eSCR technology was developed by New Holland’s sister company FPT Industrial, pioneers in the eighties of Common Rail technology. The new High

Efficiency Selective Catalytic Reduction solution has been proven and tested for millions of miles and won the European Truck of the Year 2013 award for the Iveco Stralis Hi-Way heavy duty on-road truck and most recently Engine of the Year for the new Cursor 16 engine. It is a powerful evolution of the existing ECOBlueTM SCR system, and is protected by seven different patents. It uses an after-treatment system that adds Diesel Exhaust Fluid DEF/AdBlue, a water and urea mix which is colourless and non-toxic,

into the exhaust stream and operates a closed loop system with a model-based urea dosing strategy to constantly monitor the exact levels of NO X in the exhaust to calculate the perfect dose of DEF/ AdBlue needed. The DEF/ AdBlue and exhaust gases are mixed in a patented pipe with an enhanced fluid dynamic design. Excess NH3 (ammonia) is removed with the Clean Up Catalyst (CUC). There is an engine exhaust flap to optimise engine temperature, and deliver efficient NO X conversion straight from start-up. The Diesel Oxidisation

Catalyst (DOC) oxidises the exhaust gas, guaranteeing the best mix between nitrogen oxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and increasing the conversion efficiency of the SCR catalyst. A big bonus is that the system actually boosts engine performance. Horsepower, torque and EPM band all show increases in the new Tier 4B engines, and fluid consumption (diesel plus DEF/AdBlue) will remain the same, if not better than, with the Tier 4A engines. Operating costs will actually reduce over the lifespan of the engine, and service intervals have been maintained at 600 hours. Operation is extremely simple: the DEF/AdBlue tank is filled alongside the diesel tank, and will provide continuous operation with the same range and autonomy as the fuel tank. DEF/AdBlue will be available through CNH Industrial Parts & Service: your local dealers will not only have it in stock, they will be able to deliver it directly to your farm for absolute convenience. The new ECOBlue™ Hi-eSCR technology will be used for products delivering more

than 120 hp. A light Cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (CEGR), together with a compact SCR system, has been developed for lower powered machines. With its Tier 4B innovations, New Holland confirms its role as Clean Energy Leader®: for the fourth consecutive year CNH Industrial has been named Sector Leader in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) World and Europe. It’s a recognition of the success story of this winning strategy that involves not only the final product, but also the entire manufacturing process. All CNH Industrial plants participate in the stringent World Class Manufacturing programme, and energy reduction is a key requirement. To date, 13 plants have achieved the prestigious ISO 50001

New Holland confirms its role as Clean Energy Leader with 95 per cent reduction in emissions over the past 15 years.

certification in energy management and all New Holland plants are working towards the ambitious target of reducing energy consumption by 15 per cent by 2014. Also, CNH Industrial research for new products and developments continues. The fully working methane prototype tractor has 80 per cent lower emissions than a standard tractor and is a key step to energy independence. A future methane/hydrogen tractor will further reduce emissions. The NH2™ hydrogen tractor within the Energy Independent Farm generates zero emissions and offers farmers true energy independence. This is another example of the amount of investment from New Holland in the future of Clean Energy farming.

180 times better for the environment Over the last 15 years New Holland has improved the emissions of its engines by 180 times. To put it simply, this means that 180 days of operation, or six months without interruption, generate the same emissions as a single day in 1996. This includes both NO x ( Nitrogen Oxides) and particulate matter. Both these toxic emissions have been reduced by 95 per cent. This has a huge impact on the carbon footprint of a farm, with lower overall operating costs and higher efficiency. And farmers will continue to benefit from the power, torque and torque back-up that have made New Holland products famous throughout the world.

Maximum versatility Boosts in performance for the new CX5000 and CX6000 Elevation. Up to 15 per cent higher capacity and 10 per cent throughput.

T

he New Holland mid-range combines have been through a significant upgrade process, and the CX5000 and CX6000 Elevation models now boast new features, better performance, higher capacity and faster throughput due to the innovative, new Triple-CleanTM cleaning shoe. The range offers four basic models, two five-strawwalker and two six-strawwalker; two Laterale versions for sustained performance on steep slopes; and the CX5090 Elevation Hillside

for combining in severe hillside conditions. The versatility of this combine bestows its ability to provide the right solution for every use. Among the new features, the Triple-CleanTM cascaded cleaning system increases the combine’s cleaning capacity by as much as 15 per cent. The innovative approach New Holland has taken on the design of the shoe has resulted in an additional air blast at the centre of the grain pan, that removes a large

quantity of chaff and short straw before final cleaning even starts on the main sieves. This means that the grain is almost completely cleaned in the first 50cm of the cleaning shoe. Linked with the Opti-FanTM system, the result is complete management of losses and the highest capacity in every condition. On the bigger of the strawwalker models, a further increase in capacity is given by the new double-flight cross auger that transfers grain to the

elevator faster. This results in an increase in throughput of the grain elevator as high as 10 per cent. Also, the field autonomy of the CX5000 and CX6000 Elevation has been extended to match the combines’ increased capacity with bigger 670-litre fuel tanks and bigger grain tanks that have a capacity of 8,300 litres for the 5 strawwalker and 9,300 litres for the 6 strawwalker models. “With these four upgraded

Increased cleaning capacity by 15 per cent.

8

models we reaffirm New Holland’s midrange offering as the top performer in its category with increased capacity, best-in-class performance in all conditions and all fields,

crop to crop versatility, and low operating costs,” stated Hedley Cooper, Head of Combine Harvester Product Management. And since versatility is a key requirement on the field, New Holland has packed the upgraded combines with features that maximize their flexibility. The Autofloat™ II system automatically adjusts the pressure of the header lift system so that the pressure of the header on the

ground remains constant whether the combine is moving on flat ground, uphill or downhill, resulting in a constant and regular stubble height and avoiding

any “bulldozing” effect. The Opti-Fan™ system adapts fan rpm when the slope changes, automatically ensuring a constant grain sample quality and cleaning capacity.

New Holland’s mid-range combines are the top performers in every condition and every field.

And there is a choice of high-capacity, draper headers, flex headers, corn headers and heavy-duty Varifeed™ headers with adjustable knife position for top cutting efficiency and correct feeding in all

conditions. With a width of up to 30 feet or nine metres, the headers are big enough to match the combines’ higher capacity. In the cabin, the IntelliViewTM IV monitor gives the operator full control with the touch of a finger. The 31cm wide colour touchscreen enables operators to monitor all combine functions, select the best settings by a direct link on the screen, and control up to three cameras, further enhancing the excellent all-round visibility of the Discovery™ III cab. Cruise Control resumes a set field speed at the simple tap of a button on the CommandGrip™ handle. You can record two different speeds, one for headland or lying crops and one for normal conditions, in just one touch. The monitor will display the Recommended Combine Settings, making crop settings and crop to crop transitions easier. The CX5000 and CX6000 Elevation models can be fitted with increased flexion steering and traction tyres for better flotation and reduced ground compaction. This will preserve soil quality and improve future yields.

From crop to crop Crop to crop versatility is one of the most striking features of the upgraded CX5000 and CX6000 Elevation models. New Holland’s advanced concave design is supported by a wide array of easy-to-choose crop specific settings to fine tune the combine to every single operating condition, and all of this in less than 20 minutes! A complete range of grain headers and row crop attachments provide the final choice for a perfect set-up. The Smart Sieve® system is able to compensate for slopes of up to 25 per cent on both sides. But for more demanding conditions the CX5090 and CX6090 are available in Laterale modes with a simple and robust automatic levelling system to provide a transverse slope correction of up to 18 per cent on both sides.

High output, low costs of ownership Introducing the new four strawwalker TC4.90 with advanced features.

N

ew Holland has expanded its range of TC strawwalker models with the new TC4.90, a four-strawwalker combine with more technology, better features, and yet still low maintenance and operating costs. “The entire TC range shares many advanced features with our mid-range combines. It is the answer for owners of TC5000 combines looking for a replacement with more technology and low maintenance costs without breaking the bank,” stated Hedley Cooper, Head of Combine Harvester Product Management. The new TC4.90 is packed with advanced features. The Harvest SuiteTM suspended cab is extremely quiet, with just 74dB and remarkably low vibrations (the cab is mounted on rubber isolation blocks). It offers all round visibility with all round glazing. In-cab ergonomics are, as in all New Holland models, outstanding. The InfoView™ II monitor makes it easy for the operator

to keep track of the main harvesting tasks with an interface designed to be as user-friendly as possible. The CommandGripTM multifunction handle introduces the next generation of controller to this combine sector. And the integrated coolbox that can be removed for easy re-filling is yet another example of the attention provided to the operator’s comfort during the long working days in the field. In terms of operating technology, the double cascade cleaning shoe increases cleaning capacity and quality. It features a 450mm sloping pre-sieve and the adjustable fan forces air through the grain to remove chaff and short straw ahead of the top and bottom sieves. The optional SmartSieve™ system with Opti-Fan™ guarantees a clean grain sample on slopes of up to 25 per cent. The optional moisture-sensing system provides real-time readings to the in-cab monitor so the operator can fine tune

Fast unloading, more harvesting A crucial factor for a good day’s productivity is the ability to store as much grain as possible during harvesting, and then unload it to a trailer with minimum downtime. The TC series combines have the capacity to keep working for longer. And when the trailer does arrive, the tanks can be emptied in under two minutes. With a rated capacity of 72 litres per second, the unloading auger is really fast, and thanks to the design of the cabin, the operator maintains a full view of the process throughout. This also provides an advantage in terms of overall efficiency and harvesting speed.

the settings in changing crop conditions. With the introduction of the new TC4.90 New Holland has also changed the naming system of the TC range. The

models are now identified by the number of strawwalkers, followed by a point and a two-figure number that indicates the sequence. This intuitive naming system makes

it easy to identify at a glance the number of strawwalkers and size of the model. For example, the TC4.90 means this is the biggest model with four strawwalkers.

More output, high quality, and many features shared with the mid-range combines.

Contracting with the FR “Farmers are amazed at how agile the new FR700 is”.

C

hristoph Kirst owns and manages his own contracting company, Agrar-Service Kirst in Kempfeld/ Hunsrück, Germany. The company has three permanent employees, and up to 10 seasonal workers. Their scope of work includes harvesting and collecting grass, maize and whole-crop silage. The company has been operating New Holland machinery extensively through the years, and Christoph himself is an expert in whole-crop silage. “Whole-crop silage is in ever greater demand,” he says. “In upland areas like Hunsrück, there have been just two reasonably good maize silage harvests in five years and three with poor

yields. Cereal yields, on the other hand, are secure and consistent. Top chopping quality is very important. It’s even better with the FR700 because major aspects of the machine have been redesigned.”

What were your specific requirements? “Here in Hunsrück and in the West German uplands we have different growing conditions for cereals than in many regions of Europe. And triticale is not grown everywhere either,” states Christoph. “We were pleased to see that the bosses themselves came from Italy to see first-hand

what was happening on site.”

Favourite features of the machine? “The direct cut header is solidly built, as we have come to expect from New Holland. The new chopper also scores with the sturdy hydraulic drive for frontmounted attachments. Transmission is right and the attachments can be quickly changed.” Wholecrop silage is harvested quickly with a working width of 6m at approx. 6km/h. Output is three hectares an hour. “The performance of the FR700 is good and appeals to customers.” Christoph works with grass using a 13.5-metre fourwheel swath rake, thereby producing very even swaths, feeding material very efficiently into the

FR: the top harvester With up to 824 horsepower, the FR range of self-propelled forage harvesters is capable of extreme performance. The Power Cruise™ II system automatically adapts engine and ground speed to load for fuel savings of up to 15 per cent. The unique, patented VariFlow™ system allows the chopper to be changed from corn to grass (or back) by one person without tools in less than two minutes. Top chop quality is assured by a number of innovations. The ActiveLocTM technology uses moisture sensors in combination with pre-set chop length parameters to control the length of the chop depending on moisture content. The clamp density increases, and silage quality is improved for a better nutritional profile. The award winning 3D camera based IntelliFill TM system automatically detects trailer edge and monitors filling. This means the operator can concentrate on harvesting. And the system takes care of the trailer. Another plus for efficiency is the new, remote controlled concave door for easy access, cleaning and unplugging. The door is activated through the IntelliViewTM IV monitor and only when cutterhead and engine have been shut off.

chopper and delivering excellent quality in the silo. And because he has also been mowing there with conditioner, the chopper is able to go about 2km/h faster through the looser windrows than on other surfaces that have been mown without conditioner and are raked by the farmers themselves. Some farmers still want to go 6.5-7 metres wide with their side swath rakes. Clear differences can therefore be noted here, such as lower output when chopping. And Christoph is also satisfied with the cost of operation: “We were able to get very good output in every situation.

Consumption is totally within the green area.”

Why New Holland? “In 1998 – at the previous company in the same place – we started working with the 300 hp (221kW) FX300 and were always very happy with the quality,” says Christoph. “The machine had always worked well over 12 years. Customers were always very satisfied with the chopping quality. Many other brands not achieving such good quality were doing the rounds in the neighbourhood. The farmers saw this in

the milk yields of their animals in the cowshed. The message then spread that the yellow choppers produce top quality. Switching from FX to FR9060 with a grain processor produced another enormous boost, particularly in wholecrop silage, because the grain was crushed and conditioned more efficiently. The biogas plant operators noticed this immediately in the gas output in the fermenter. And the two new biogas plants then also immediately became our customers, as did a few large dairy farms, so that the second chopper is now also well utilised.”

Contractor Christoph Kirst provides his view on whole crop silage and how it must be handled.

Farmer gives CR10.90 seal of approval on UK national tour F

armers up and down the country got to grips with the latest harvest technology brought to them by a national tour of New Holland’s market-leading combines, tractors and balers. The tour’s show-stopper was the new CR10.90, the first combine to enter the class 10 segment in Europe and the most powerful CR ever, delivering the highest

capacity in the industry and outstanding performance. One farm owner Giles Porter, who runs a New Holland CR9090 himself, gave his reaction when he drove the machine at the tour stop in the 2,300acre (930 hectares) Clare Park Farm, Crondall, near Farnham in Surrey. Giles said: “The line-up was very good, especially the new ones. I had a drive on the big new CR10.90 and it was very impressive.

“It’s a very high capacity machine but also relatively simple at the same time – that means less breakdowns and more cutting. “All the straw was spread very well and with a nice and level cut. They certainly coped very well with everything. When we come to make a shortlist before investing in our next combine the CR10.90 – or probably a smaller version – will be on it.” The impressive line-up

was hosted by 13 other venues in England and Scotland during July, August and September, with New Holland specialists and local dealers teaming up to answer customers’ product questions and sales enquiries. Joining the show were the distinctively styled CX5000 and CX6000 Elevation combines. Flexible and versatile, they offer a solution for all: from livestock

farmers who want quality straw to contractors and arable farmers who need to switch crops easily without compromising on performance and quality. Customers also witnessed New Holland’s state-ofthe-art PLM® Connect system in action; enabling equipment to be coordinated, monitored and managed from a central office without wasting time and effort travelling between operations. Finally, the all new Roll-Belt, variable chamber Round baler, for customers who want unsurpassed baling flexibility and performance, was on demonstration at each event, through the Roll-

Belt 150 Superfeed model, coupled to a T6.160. New Holland Marketing Manager Nicolas Ferrara said: “Theses models are setting the standard in their segments, so this was a really exciting tour where they were showcased to the market. “For our customers it was the first time they saw the CR10.90 in action. It demonstrated its power, efficiency and quality, as well as New Holland’s standard comfort and ease of use. “These models have answered the latest demands from farmers and businesses and the tour was an excellent opportunity to show first-hand what these new models can achieve.”

New Holland BigBalers entrusted to harvest haylage for the Queen A

national haylage firm supplying top equestrian operations, including two owned by the Queen, is increasingly entrusting New Holland equipment with the critical task of harvesting its premier crop. At the company’s Manor Farm HQ near Nottingham, Eurobale deploys a pair of Packer Cutter BigBalers – a BB9050 and the newer BB870 – plus a pair of T7 tractors to help bring in an annual 8,000 tonnes of crop grown from seedlings by the professional team. As well as displaying the royal warrant for supplying the Royal Stud at Sandringham and the Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace, Eurobale serves 2012’s Champion Trainer John Gosden, from Clarehaven

Stables in Newmarket. Eurobale is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year under the management of father-and-son team Geoff (80) and Richard Brooks (50), whose enviable client list also boasts the Metropolitan Police’s mounted division and the Defence Animal Centre – HQ for the Royal Army Veterinary Corps Association. The pair steered the company through a change in bale size four years ago, stepping up from the New Holland and Fiatagri 710/4820, 47x80cm balers to the larger 70x80cm size. The New Holland BB9050 helped lead the switch and the BB870 joined two years later. Richard explained the move towards New Holland: “We could simply

get more weight from a New Holland baler, which the competitors could not match. We got very good bale shape and weight. I needed the extra density to get the lorry loads right. We need them like house bricks and as identical to each other as possible. “The new model BB870 baler with the striking curved panels has definitely got a 15 per cent output advantage. I can push it harder than we could with the previous brand. It’s more efficient. “I have been very happy with the reliability. In this business, you always have to get off sometimes while you’re baling and have a look, but we’ve had no major problems with them at all.” Advantages include automatic baler length technology which

determines the best point to cut off the bale to keep it as close as possible to the desired size. They now also run a pair of New Holland T7 AutoCommand tractors bought in August this year from RES Tractors, a family-run New Holland dealership in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. Established in 1986 by owner Bob Skinner, RES Tractors has grown substantially and now has an extensive workshop, a fleet of fully trained engineers, and a large showroom packed with spare parts. The T7.200 and T7.250 are used for mowing and baling and have performed impressively enough to tempt Richard into considering another New Holland T7.200 to add to the fleet.

He said: “I was very impressed by the technology. With some other makes, the technology actually interferes with the experience. But the way New Holland integrated it made it so easily accessible.” New Holland Area Sales Manager Rob Dee said: “I was involved with Richard and Geoff’s original trials with big baled haylage 20 years ago and it’s great to see Eurobale still using our market-leading BigBaler range to add value and quality to their product. The density, reliability and efficient pick-up are a package that makes a huge difference. “The fact that Eurobale’s premier haylage is in high demand from such prestigious customers as the Queen demonstrates

the quality support they’ve had from New Holland equipment. “What makes it even more rewarding for us is that New Holland tractors are teaming up with New Holland BigBalers. It’s a high quality fleet helping to produce a high quality product.” The award-winning BigBaler range is packed with a series of productivity enhancing features including the MaxiSweep™ pickup to ensure constant smooth feeding together with the SmartFill™ system, which guarantees uniform flake formation courtesy of a network of precision sensors. Advanced PLM systems, including ActiveWeigh™ on-the-go bale weighing technology, will enhance yields and profitability.

Blue tractor bulks up the thin blue line in crime-fighting campaign I

t’s a far cry from The Sweeney’s high octane car chases. But last Summer in rural Wales a New Holland tractor became the latest new recruit to join the local police’s crime-fighting efforts. The TD5010 sports flashing lights on top, an official high-vis police colour scheme, and side by side with the New Holland crest is the official insignia of the

Dyfed-Powys force. Despite the turbocharged power under its hood, the twowheel-drive tractor wasn’t on the frontline, however – instead it was used as an eye-catching way to build links with the countryside community. Rural areas can be incredibly isolated and the police hoped visits by the instantly recognisable tractor will encourage residents,

workers and businesses to report concerns, pass on intelligence and ultimately help drive down crime. The unusual idea was the brainchild of PC Nigel Lewis from the Haverfordwest neighbourhood policing team – but it needed the support from J.E. Lawrence and Son Ltd, New Holland’s Pembrokeshire dealership, to make it happen. Managing director Richard

Lawrence explained: “When we loaned them the tractor, we didn’t really know exactly what they were going to do with it. But it looks fantastic with the lights and blue markings. “We’re really proud to see it and it’s got some great publicity for New Holland too. The idea was actually just to use it for the Pembrokeshire Show but it was ready in time for the Royal Welsh Show so it went there too.” When it’s not being used by the police, the four-cylinder TD5010 is more used to being deployed by dairy farmers and smallholders

as a highly dependable utility tractor able to take on a wide variety of tasks. Its popularity is thanks to capabilities such as a rear lift capacity of 3,000kg, low fuel consumption of an optimum 220 g/kWh, and engine service intervals of 600 hours. Inspector Tim Davies, of Pembrokeshire division, said: “We’re very impressed with this new piece of kit. Engagement with our rural communities is important to us, and we want people to come and discuss any concerns they may have about rural crime etc.” The tractor made a series

of appearances around the area. In July it took pride of place at the Dyfed-Powys Police stands at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show and the National Eisteddfod. Next it was the turn of the Pembrokeshire County Show from August 19th-21st where the machine attracted interest before a tour of some of Pembrokeshire’s smaller towns over the following months. As well as sparking plenty of talk among the local community, the tractor made national headlines with the BBC, ITV, the Daily Telegraph, the Independent and the Daily Mail.

Factory-to-farm experience puts New Holland top of farmer’s shopping list F

irst-time New Holland customer Ben Elderton was so impressed by the factory-to-farm experience of buying his new T6.150 Electro Command™ that the blue brand is now at the top of his machinery shopping list. Ben (24) is manager of Glebe Farm in Earls Barton, near Northampton, and his purchase from the local Turney Group dealership included a special-guest visit to New Holland’s flagship tractor plant in Basildon which was celebrating its 50th anniversary last year. The farm has been in his family for four generations and includes 80 hectares of arable plus another eight hectares of vegetables to supply the thriving farm shop. For Ben, the T6.150 was the right selection for a perfect combination

of reasons: power, fuel efficiency, adaptability, nimble, size, weight, and tyre nimbleness. After five months of reliable operation, he explained: “I had been looking for a tractor that could cover all our spraying and spreading jobs all year round while still doing the cultivation and drilling. It does just about everything. “With 150 horsepower and four cylinders, I have got a short wheel base and good maneuverability and it’s light too – light as a feather.” Making Ben’s life even easier is the Electro Command™ option of semi-powershift transmission which allows operators to select eight gear speeds via up and downshift buttons on the control lever. Ben said: “It’s a very simple piece of kit with the Electro Command™ gearbox. We

have got the benefit of the power shift and automatic functions. It’s very simple for drivers to just jump on and go.” A variety of tyre options combine with the size of the T6.150 to create the perfect size-match for Ben’s drilling and cultivating operations. He said: “Getting the tractor set up with the rather unusual combination of 12in dual rear wheels and single 22in or 11in fronts is one of the best things I’ve done. “It is a perfect row crop tractor with plenty of power from the four-cylinder engine block, which gives a short wheelbase and great maneuverability, while the dual wheels allow me to change very quickly to a low ground pressure setup with very impressive grip for such a light tractor.” He continued: “The choice was partly about fuel efficiency. I didn’t want

to get stuck with a tractor that compromised on performance to improve emissions. That’s what I spent the money on – to get the best result. That was really key. “In fact, I’m using half the fuel on some of the jobs; I get through a litre of fuel a hectare on the spraying and spreading. I am pretty impressed with that and we get a lot of work done on a tank. “The engine management is brilliant in terms of power delivery and everything else. You have got plenty of torque at any engine speed.” Ben was equally impressed with his trip to New Holland’s Basildon tractor factory, during its Golden Jubilee year and where more than 1.6 million British-made machines have rolled off the now twokilometre production line.

“The visit was very interesting,” he said. “It’s remarkable how many different tractors are made in one place and how many options there were. I was impressed how organised and compact the production line is and how easy it made it look to produce so many different tractors all at once” “It’s nice to know that we have got a company that is based in our country for parts and support. For me, it basically comes down to local dealer support, with New Holland.”

Jim Pearson, Area Manager for Turney Fieldforce, said: “I’m so glad Ben’s T6.150 Electro Command is more than meeting its promise – it’s a brilliant tractor. He looked at a lot of different options and this one ticked all the boxes. “It’s also really good to see that our service and support were part of what brought Ben to New Holland. The tractor’s wide range of abilities is crucial but for busy farmers that fast and expert back-up can be just as important.”

Commenting on both Farmer’s Apprentice and The Cream Awards sponsorship, Andrew said: “It is vital that the skills and enthusiasm for agriculture are retained and developed. New Holland is fully committed to supporting the next generation of

agricultural talent into the industry and both of these initiatives have our full backing.”

New Holland was delighted to support British brand Brothers Cider on its ‘Taste of Summer’ tour this past summer, providing a T7 tractor for the brothers’ use while promoting their delicious cider. The tour travelled up and down the UK visiting a number of cities from June to August, including Bath, Bristol, Manchester and Birmingham. On August

Everything on the TD5 is designed for utmost simplicity of use. Even the hydraulics are fully versatile. With an optional flow of 63 litres/minute on the more powerful models, even the most demanding jobs can be tackled easily. The TD5 can be specified with two mid-mount remote valves controlled via an ergonomically mounted joystick. You can also specify up to three rear-mounted remotes. The award-winning Lift-OMaticTM Plus allows you to lift and return an implement to a pre-set working depth with fine adjustment. The category two rear linkage has a maximum lift capacity of a massive 3,565kg. When specified

with the new twin assist ram option, the three top models in the range, if mounted on R38 wheels, can lift a Herculean

4,700kg. For even more productive farming, the optional quick attach rear links offer fast hitching from the comfort of the cab.

As powerful on the road as it is on the field The new TD5 range has powerful on-road features that will make life easier for farmers. The 40 kph top speed can be maintained even with fully loaded trailers, thanks to the 15 per cent increase in overall braking performance. Automatic four-wheel drive engagement is also offered to assist braking. This feature is especially beneficial when driving downhill on mountainous roads, boosting safety and overall driving comfort. The 360-degree cabin visibility is another plus when on the road, and makes the TD5 a truly capable transport solution.

Precision Agriculture wins the hearts of Italian farmers Intelligent, efficient, money-saving technologies: confirmation from two farming companies which have adopted New Holland solutions for many years. seeding, planting, fertilising and treating. This avoids the superimposed passages and wasted product distribution that are inevitable with manual steering, however skilled. For example, the ease of use of these systems has greatly simplified delicate operations such as the transplanting of tomato plants, by increasing the precision of the plant rows, which then benefits the execution of all successive operations."

Perfection in the field

P

resenting two familyrun farms with two different production and management cultures and traditions – one in Piacenza and the other in the province of Foggia. But they do have one thing in common: they are both convinced of the potential of the systems involved in the PLM (Precision Land Management) programme, the Precision Agriculture project which New Holland has been offering and developing since 2008.

Smart working In the farm run by the Arata family in Rivergaro, in the province of Piacenza, the agriculture of the future is already in operation on 400 hectares of land where tomatoes, cereals, grain and sweetcorn are cultivated. Paolo and Filippo, the two brothers who run the farm, decided some time ago to invest in new PLM technology to

16

increase productivity, reduce operation costs and ensure high product quality. They own a total of 16 farming vehicles, and New Holland tractors play a key role in activities which demand maximum operational reliability and precision. "We're so satisfied with our PLM satellite systems that we had our most recently purchased tractor – a T8.420 – factory-fitted with the IntelliSteerTM automatic steering system," states Paolo with conviction. "We have fitted two other vehicles with Autopilot automatic steering units, with FM 1000 monitors that use the reliable RTK network radio signal supplied by the Agraria Terrepadane Consortium." When asked about the specific advantages gained by farms that adopt such systems, Filippo had this to say: "This technology makes it possible for the tractor to steer with total precision, as though moving on rails, in all its main operations –

PLM systems have also become indispensable "working companions" in Matteo Melillo's farming company. His operations cover 300 hectares of land in the province of Foggia, specialising in the cultivation of vegetables, beets and cereals.

"Personally, I'm really satisfied with the decision I made, about six years ago, when I started using automatic steering devices,” he says. “At the beginning I used an EGNOS corrective signal with an EZ-Guide 500 manual steering system, which already offered perceptible benefits." After this, further New Holland purchases – the T8.420 and T6.160 – were fitted with complete IntelliSteerTM systems and IntelliViewTM IV monitors, while the T6060 was fitted with an Autopilot system and an FM 1000 display. All the vehicles use an RTK radio correction, capable of maintaining trajectories with a maximum error of 2 cm - thanks to which, in the words of Matteo: "We have achieved perfection in the field!" Matteo has clear ideas about the validity of the PLM system: "It offers notable savings through

reductions in wasted fuel, fertiliser and plant protection products, and also by cutting down operative time. This has been particularly important in recent years, when uneven climatic conditions have progressively reduced the amount of time available for certain operations. We also know that New Holland works constantly to further develop and improve these systems, and that it listens to our feedback and our needs." Precisely to improve this dialogue and extend the services offered, New Holland has recently activated a dedicated PLM Customer Support telephone service, with a toll-free number for all those using its Precision Farming systems. In terms of possible future investments in the PLM sector, Matteo has this to say: "Me and my children

and my farm workers all use guidance systems for all the operations we carry out, and from this year also for off-furrow ploughing. Precision Agriculture has in practice already changed and improved our way of working, and we will certainly continue to invest in New Holland PLM Precision Agriculture systems." "These New Holland solutions offer notable savings through reductions in wasted fuel, fertiliser and plant protection products, and also by cutting down operative time." Matteo Melillo "We're so satisfied with our PLM satellite systems that we had our most recently purchased tractor – a T8.420 – factory-fitted with the IntelliSteerTM automatic steering system." The Magirus Experience Centre in Ulm is an unparalleled centre of excellence for the firefighting industry. R&D, production, test benches for calibration, software programming, and the inspection and auditing areas – all sit side by side in an area of over 321,000 square metres, of which 103,000 are covered. Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Fiat Chrysler and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of CNH Industrial, and Group CEO Richard Tobin travelled to the anniversary event specifically to visit the facilities and the new Experience Centre. “The idea is for firefighters, customers, and visitors from around the world to wholly immerse themselves in the world of Magirus here and to sense the passion that we invest in our work for firefighting teams around the world every single day,” said Magirus CEO Antonio Benedetti.

ew Holland has a history that dates back 120 years. It is therefore no surprise when its most popular models show decades of success. In 2015 celebrations are in store for the New Holland Speedrower® (50th anniversary), the New Holland Twin Rotor® Combines (40th anniversary) and the New Holland Roll-BeltTM round balers. The Speedrower® was originally introduced in the 1960s and was the world’s first self-propelled windrower. After half a century of continuous improvement, today’s Speedrowers can handle any crop: alfalfa, grass, small grains, canola, barley, lentils or peas. The Twin Rotor® Combines were launched in Lexington, Nebraska, in 1975, and were the first combines to display the revolutionary rotary technology. The ninth generation is now on the market, 40 years later, with the top-of-the-range CR10.90 Elevation, the most powerful Twin Rotor combine model ever, with a massive 410-bushel grain tank and 653 hp engine. It was actually 70 years ago that New Holland first launched a self-tie baler. But the round baler first rolled off the production line in New Holland, Pennsylvania, in 1974. Incredibly, 40 years and over 225,000 round balers later, the same assembly line still builds the latest generation of New Holland Roll-BeltTM balers; an impressive feat, with more innovations to come in 2015. Dedicated. Uncompromised. SMART.

Three New Holland models celebrate their 40th and 50th years of production.
