The Spirit of Miege

2022-2023 VIEWBOOK

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Bishop Miege High School! Thank you for joining us to take a look at our school and all the programs we have to offer. We look forward to sharing the many ways students at Bishop Miege achieve success in the classroom and beyond. As you flip through this book, you’ll discover what makes our school unique. We are an inviting, fun, faith-filled community.

Our mission is to develop the potential of all students in a Catholic education environment through spiritual growth, academic success, and stewardship. The formation of our students to follow Jesus Christ is critical in the challenges of today’s world. Whether it’s an intense discussion of the Gospel in Theology or discerning strengths and interests in our newly formed seven Academic Communities, Miege students participate in rigorous courses that prepare them for success in college and beyond.

Our innovative 21st Century learning programs incorporate project-based learning that utilizes current technology which also enhances the students’ written and verbal skills. Bishop Miege students learn life skills of collaboration in teams and how to solve real world problems.

We celebrate our diversity at Miege that creates an environment for students to learn and appreciate different cultures and backgrounds. “If we live in the Spirit, let us also follow the Spirit”, Galatians 5:25, is the Miege theme for 2022-23. We are striving to live out this scripture every day. Please do not hesitate to contact myself or members of our Administrative Team if we can assist you in any way as you make this important decision.

We hope God’s plan for your student includes a future at Bishop Miege High School.

IN THE CLASSROOM

As a Catholic community of faith, Miege is committed to developing the potential of our students through spiritual growth, academic success and stewardship. • Rigorous comprehensive Catholic High School Curriculum

• Project Based Learning that allows students to create solutions to real world challenges

• Dual Credit and Applied Learning courses

• Professional Networking Opportunities, include Job Shadows, client connected projects and summer internships.

CAMPUS MINISTRY

The mission of the Bishop Miege Campus Ministry program is to meet each member of our community - especially students - where they are and accompany them on their faith journey through liturgies, retreats, service, prayer and fellowship.

All of the opportunities to promote religious and spiritual development are designed to strengthen relationships with God, to more fully realize the person God created each of us to be, and to be a person FOR and WITH others.

Students can deepen their relationships with God, self, and others through:

• Monthly All-School Mass

• Weekly Chapel Masses

• Weekly Morning Rosary

• Weekly Morning Prayer

The Campus Ministry Team (CMT) involves the entire community and coordinates the following opportunities:

Entire Class Retreat Programs

Chat & Chew - CMT Lunches

National Catholic Youth Conference

March for Life - Washington DC

Rally for Life - Topeka

CMT Day Away

Community Service Projects

Spring Break Mission Trips

Students who attend Miege for four years are required to complete a minimum of 80 hours of service prior to graduation (annual requirement: 10 hours as freshmen, 20 hours as sophomores, and 25 hours junior and senior years).

HERD & FAITH FAMILY

Bishop Miege Community System

PURPOSE: The overall purpose is that every student belongs from the moment they enter Miege. They are immediately a part of their Herd and their Faith Family, giving them a unique connection with Christ, their fellow Herd members, Faith Family members, and the faculty mentors that lead the Faith Families. Each student has at least four significant adults in their school life, and they have the ability to create bonds amongst all grade levels. Herds also enable students to embrace their potential for leadership by increasing the opportunities to be a part of the Herd Council and other contributions to the Bishop Miege community.

STRUCTURE: The Herd is an all encompassing system for the pastoral care of every student at Miege. This community structure supports Stag leadership by enhancing the Ursuline principles that Miege is founded on. Student life, faith development, academics, service, student council, and school spirit are all integral aspects of the Herds.

16

THREE CORE VALUES

- FAITHGrowing a relationship with Jesus Christ

- COMMUNITYFinding Christ in one another

- SERVICEServing Christ by serving others

To meet these core values, each student is placed in a multi-grade Faith Family with students from each grade level. A member of the faculty will serve as a Faith Family Mentor for the student’s entire tenure at Bishop Miege High School.

Faith Family

Four Faith Families constitute a Herd. The names of the Herds honor notable Miege faculty members that have helped to build the supportive culture our school enjoys today.

Herd Council System

Student leadership is incorporated into the community system. Each Faith Family selects one senior captain. Each Faith Family also selects an underclassman to serve as deputy to assist the captain.

Executive Council

In the Spring each Herd votes on an Executive Captain for the following school year. These eight Executive Captains lead the Herd Council, which advises administration on student issues and oversees student community building activities within our school.

A Miege legend, color, symbols, and motto make up each Herd Crest creating each Herd identity. Students wear Herd shirts for various Faith Family activities throughout the year.
