Your Legacy at Loughlin

We are very grateful to the many alumni and friends who have established scholarship funds at Loughlin. Thefundslistedallowtheschooltooffersignificantscholarship and aid to hard working and deserving young men and women. These funds also enable LoughlintofulfillourLasallianMission.

At Loughlin, weofferbothENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS and ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS. Endowed Scholarship Funds must meet a minimum threshold before annual distribution whereas our Annual Scholarship Funds are annual gifts that support one or more students for the current academic year.

In addition, THE LOUGHLIN FOUNDATION holds a number of funds and makes annual grants at their discretion.

We encourage you to consider starting your own scholarship fund. Honor a parent, a Christian Brother, or other infl uence in your life.

Named Annual Scholarship Funds start at $2,500 (we ask for a two-year pledge or more) and Endowed Scholarship Funds start at $50,000.

If you are interested in learning more about establishing a scholarship fund, please contact Andrew Leary at aleary@blmhs.org or 718-857-2700 x2251.

If you do not see your name and you have established a Fund, please contact Andrew Leary.

MAKE A GIFT TAX-FREE WITH AN IRA

A TAX-SAVING WAY TO HELP BISHOP LOUGHLIN

Makeadifferencetodayandsaveontaxes.It’spossiblewhenyousupportBishop Loughlin through your IRA.

A SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY FOR THOSE 70 1/2 YEARS OLD AND OLDER

You can give any amount (up to a maximum of $100,000) per year from your IRA directly to a qualifiedcharitysuchasBishopLoughlinMemorialHighSchoolwithouthavingtopayincometaxesonthemoney.Giftsofanyvalue$100,000orlessareeligibleforthisbenefitandyoucanfeelgoodknowingthatyouaremakingadifferenceatBLMHS.ThispopulargiftoptioniscommonlycalledtheIRAcharitablerollover,butyoumayalsoseeitreferredtoasaqualifiedcharitable distribution, or QCD for short.

WHY CONSIDER THIS GIFT?

Yourgiftwillbeputtousetoday,allowingyoutoseethedifferenceyourdonationismaking.

Beginning in the year you turn 72, you can use your gift to satisfy all or part of your required minimum distribution (RMD).

You pay no income taxes on the gift. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, soyoubenefitevenifyoudonotitemizeyourdeductions.

Since the gift doesn’t count as income, it can reduce your annual income level. This may help lower your Medicare premiums and decrease the amount of Social Security that is subject to tax.

FOR THOSE 59 1/2 YEARS OLD AND OLDER

If you’re at least 59½ years old, you can take a distribution and then make a gift from your IRA without penalty. If you itemize your deductions, you can take a charitable deduction for the amount of your gift.

AT ANY AGE

No matter your age, you can designate Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School as the beneficiaryofallorapercentageofyourIRAanditwillpasstoustax-freeafteryourlifetime.It’ssimple,justrequiringthatyoucontactyourIRAadministratorforachange-of-beneficiaryform or download a form from your provider’s website.

TIP: It’s critical to let us know of your gift because many popular retirement plan administrators assume no obligation to notify a charity of your designation. The administrator also will not monitor whether your gift designations are followed. We would love to talk to you about your intentions to ensure that they are followed. We would also like to thank you for your generosity.

NEXT STEPS

1. Use our online tool Take Action! Give From Your IRA to connect to your retirement provider. 2. Contact Andrew Leary at 718-857-2700 x2251 or aleary@blmhs.org to discuss using your IRA to support BLMHS and our mission.

3. Seektheadviceofyourfinancialorlegaladvisor. 4. To include BLMHS in your plans, please use our legal name and federal tax ID. Please let us know of your gift (many retirementprovidersassumenoresponsibilityforlettingnonprofitsknowofyourintentionssoyourgoalswon’tbe honored).

You dictate the serving sizes. You can ensure that your loved ones get the biggest portion of your estate. You can also make sure yourfamilygetsservedfirst.
