Mock Trial Mock Trial competed at the State Competition and performed very well, finishing 3rd overall and receiving two awards. Rachel Raps ’19 received the Best Attorney Award and Brooke Powell ’19 received the Best Witness Award. Club Moderator, Mr. Rob Crisp said, "I’m very proud of everyone and we had an amazing season. I am very sad to see my seniors leave, but I am excited for each of them to go to college and hopefully compete in collegiate Mock Trial". Rachel Raps ’19 said, “Mock Trial completely transformed me and showed me what I want to do with my life. I formed the closest friendships and learned so much about the law and public speaking. I will pursue Mock Trial at Berkeley.”

C-Span, cont. Zander is among 340 winning students from across the country sharing a total of $100,000 in prize money. In all, 150 winning videos were awarded. On April 10, Zander was recognized for his achievement by representatives from C-SPAN and from the offices of Senator Jackie Rosen and Governor Steve Sisolak who each presented him with a Certificate of Recognition. Zander said he enjoyed the process of making his video and plans to continue making documentaries in the future. Way to go Mock Trial team!

Speech & Debate In early April, Mateo Portelli '20 competed at the State Lion's Club Speech Contest in Ely, NV and took 1st Place! Over the last two months, Mateo has advanced through four levels of competition. What is his prize for winning this? Mateo is the recipient of a $6500 college scholarship. Congratulations to our State Champ! The annual Lions Student Speakers Contest is a 75-year tradition. This contest provides an opportunity for competitive speaking among students on a subject of vital interest to the contestants, as well as to the American people as a whole. The contest also stimulates self-expression and independent thinking, and considers the present and future world problems.
