Home visiting service VOLUNTEERS HAVE come forward following an appeal in the Birstall Post. Wendy Marshall, Home Visiting coordinator for LOROS, said: “It has been a year now since LOROS and Birstall BAGS released posters and adverts in the Birstall post appealing for volunteers.
“LOROS Hospice has now had a total of 15 enquiries from the Birstall and Rothley area to volunteer for the Home Visiting Service - thank you.” Five volunteers have completed their training with the Home Visiting Service and are providing social support and companionship to five patients - two in Birstall and three in the wider Leicester and Leicestershire area.
A further two applicants are keen to volunteer for LOROS but in other areas, one as a driver, the other as a receptionist at the Hospice, says Wendy. She added: “The Home Visiting Service continues to get excellent feedback about our volunteers from patients, carers and professionals alike. We are currently seeing around 60 patients in their homes with a team of 44 volunteers. “The service continues to go from strength to strength and we would be delighted to talk to anyone interested in volunteering for the Home Visiting Service or elsewhere across the charity.” Who can refer to LOROS Home Visiting Service? Your GP, specialist nurse or other health and social care professional can refer you to the service. How can I become a volunteer for LOROS Home Visiting Service?
