Boiler operation The pellets burner attached in the front of the boiler (see image on page 4) is operated through on/off regulation within the output span (more info on page 3) to maintain the operating pressure at the pressure control (3) according to set point values within the control cabinet (14). This pressure regulation controls the pellet in-feed sequence, thus adjusting the temperature of the system. There should be at least 1 bar difference between the max. pressure controls (2) and the operating pressure control. The electrode stand/level regulation (4) regulates the water feeding intake according to the set point value in control cabinet 10. If the water level at level control (11) sinks below the set minimum value the boiler will shut down through the aid of the dual emergency protection units within the control cabinet (14).

Boiler safety equipment (more on this on the next page) •

The dual maximum pressure controls (2) sets off the alarm if the boiler pressure reaches the set point value.

The negative pressure in the boiler is secured through the flue gas fan. A sensor (16) regulates according to a set point value in the frequency converter .

The boilers temperature guard (17) will activate the alarm if the negative pressure is too low, e.g. the pressure within the combustion chamber is too high.

The flue gas temperature guard (18) sets off the alarm if the flue gas temperature is too high.

The dual safety valves (8) are used as a mechanical safety device against over pressure in the installation.

All of the alarms can be monitored via a digital display on the front of the control cabinet door (14). (More on the alarms on the following page.)

Ash handling The internal ash auger positioned in the bottom of the furnace (displayed on the right) transports the ash outside of the boiler to an external ash auger which also transports the dust from the multi-cyclone to the ash barrel, which is normally located outside the boiler room. (Drawing with position list available upon request.)

Boiler safety equipment The electrode stand/level regulation (4) Works together with the double emergency protection units within the control cabinet to monitor the low water level control, high water level control and feed water regulator through the electrodes in the stand that measure the water level and regulate the feed water pump. The emergency protection units are placed within the door of the control cabinet and are equipped with lights that indicate current operating status and alarms. •

The low water control stops the burner if the water level sinks to the lowest allowed level. When the level returns to normal the system automatically re-starts. The device has a 10-second delay to stop the alarm from activating if there is an irregularity with the water volume for just a short period.

The high water control stops the burner if the water level rises above the highest allowed level. When the level returns to normal the system automatically re-starts.

The emergency protection will be activated and stop the burner when the water level sinks below the lowest allowed level and the low level control has been tripped for 10 seconds. No automatic re-start of the system is available after the emergency protection alarm has been activated.

The feed water regulator regulates the water level by starting and stopping the feed water pump.

Maximum pressure controls (2) The dual maximum pressure controls set of the alarm if the boiler pressure reaches the set point value. To start the system after the pressure controls trip you must reset both the controls and the unit within the control cabinet.

The combustion chamber temperature guard (17) This sets off the alarm if the negative pressure is too low, e.g. the pressure within the combustion chamber is too high. This alarm has to be reset manually and automatic re-start of the system is not possible if the alarm is activated.

The flue gas temperature guard (18) This sets off the alarm if the flue gas temperature is too high and subsequently shuts down the system.

The dual safety valves (8) Are used as the mechanical safety device against over pressure in the installation. They need to be connected to the open air in a way that prevents harm to people, should they need to trigger.

Eurofire pellets burner Burner functions Firing wood pellets using the eurofire pellets burner is very similar to firing with oil; therefore a pellets burner requires only marginally more servicing than when using oil. We recommend keeping a service log and performing a regular, pro-active maintenance cycle and de-sooting procedure of both the burner and boiler. The eurofire pellets burner is delivered as standard complete with a tested and reliable electrical ignition system. The burner and the pellets feeding system is automatic during operation and is controlled by a thermostat. The patented primary, secondary and tertiary air supply provides an almost complete combustion of fuel which is very cost effective

Automatic feed screw safety system

The pellet feed screw has a built in safety system which is based on a freefall principal. In the event of overheating the specially designed plastic tube melts away and the pellets will fall freely away from the burner’s steel feed shute. The burner will give an alarm and automatically shut down.

Fully automatic system The burner can be adjusted to suit pellets with a varying range of energy content. The control panel of the burner is pre-programmed and set to provide a pre-determined effective energy output. The installer can adjust the effective energy output appropriate to the requirement of plant already in place. The installer or operator can adjust the fuel flow rate to the burner, relative to the energy content of the pellets used for optimum combustion within the boiler. The feeding of pellets to the burner from the pellets store is automatic and is regulated by the burner’s fuel management system.

Compressed air cleaning

Operation A 150 litre pressure vessel is used to store compressed air which is fed to a number of diaphragm valves. The pressure vessel is fed from a compressor through a DN15 connection. The pressure of the equipment is adjusted with a pressure regulator. The pressure vessel is designed to operate between 8 - 10 bar. Normally the pressure drops from 8 to 5 bar during an air blast. The valves shoot compressed air into the flue gas tubes of the boiler according to set parameters regarding pause times and blast time. These settings are dependent on fuel ash content, operating mode and output. The valves are controlled by a mini-PLC which has the advantage of permitting individual programming for different installations. Using the mini-PLC, the valves are activated automatically in sequence, and the pipes governed by the valve are blasted with compressed air

Quick-release coupling

Auxiliary equipment Equipment that works together A multi-cyclone, flue gas fan and external ash auger working together to handle the cleaning of the flue gas and the transportation of ash and separated particles outside to an ash barrel is a crucial part of a system like this. This makes sure that the emissions from the flue stack are kept to a minimum and that the combustion ash from the furnace and the particles from the flue gas are delt with in an safe, effective manner.

The whole process is automated and monitored through the boiler control system.

Auxiliary equipment Multi-cyclone Acts as a dynamic separator of fuel particles, ash and the dust that arises from the flue gas tube cleaning process. These larger particle fractions are a dominating source of pollution and if not separated from the flue gas can cause an environmental health issue within the local environment. Connects to the boiler flue gas outlet, the flue gas fan and the external ash auger.

Flue gas fan The induction fan extracts the flue gases from the furnace and draws it through the flue gas tubes of the convection area of the boiler. It is very important to dimension the flue gas fan with care so that it can manage to extract the flue gases correctly. The fan also controls the pressure of the furnace. Connects to the multi cyclone and the flue stack

External ash auger This screw transports the ash from the combustion chamber and the particles separated in the multi-cyclone to an ash barrel normally located outside the building. The total number of external augers needed depends on the boiler plant layout and what distances and angles the augers needs to be able to handle.

2012-04-27. All rights reserved. Information subject to change without notice.

The augers come in various lengths and designs. The U-shape is used for horizontal transportation and the O-shape can be used when the auger has to be placed at an angle. To prevent unwanted air to enter into the combustion area, the ash transportation system must include a rotary valve (air-lock) somewhere along the way. Connects to the internal ash auger of the boiler, the multi cyclone and the ash barrel.

Rotary valve Functions as an air lock to prevent unwanted air to enter into the combustion area. Normally connects between the internal and external ash auger.
