The effects and dangers of ozone

Ozone is a very useful and harmful substance that is used in medicine, especially in the treatment of dental lesions, as it has an anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effect.

Medical care

Ozone has been used internationally for a variety of medical purposes: disinfection of air in wards and operating theatres, disinfection of medical instruments with ozonated water, treatment of dental diseases (oral surgery and keeping the mouth sterile) with ozone, treatment of cancer by combining ozone with radiotherapy, treatment of women's diseases by drinking ozonated water, treatment of fistulas and varicose veins by injecting ozonated gas, etc.

In terms of health care, it is popular in Japan and Taiwan to inhale strong air (air containing low concentrations of ozone) to strengthen the body and to shower the body with ozonated water to kill body bacteria and for beauty purposes. The application of ozone for cosmetic purposes is one of the popular high-tech beauty treatments nowadays.

Ozone was successfully used in the treatment of anaemia and diabetes as early as the early 20th century. By the 1980s it was commonly used abroad in clinical practice as a healing aid. In addition, ozone is able to optimize the oxidation genes of tissues and therefore has both therapeutic and health functions. However, medical treatment requires high purity and concentration of ozone.

Food processing and preservation

In 1904, ozone was used in Europe to preserve milk, meat, cheese and egg whites; by the end of the 1930s, ozone generators had been installed in 80% of US refrigerated egg banks; after World War II, ozone was used in Europe, America, Japan and other countries to preserve food and vegetables in all aspects of storage, manufacturing

and transportation.
