Welcome to our first fully digital Recreation Connection!
We’re excited to make it easier than ever to explore your favorite programs, classes, and events—all in one convenient online format. You can enjoy the catalog delivered straight to your inbox, flip through the interactive pages, click directly to register, and print the pages you want. Going digital helps us reduce paper waste and printing costs while supporting our community’s climate action goals—all without changing the great content you love.
As we enter the winter season and look ahead to a new year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the progress we’ve made together and share a glimpse of what’s ahead.
In 2025, our planning team has been out in the community gathering input for the 2026 Comprehensive Plan Update. I want to thank everyone who took part in shaping this important plan. Your feedback and ideas continue to guide our priorities and strengthen our parks and programs for years to come. Check out our project webpage, BIParks.org/Comprehensive-Planning, for updates and ways to stay engaged as we move to finalize the plan in February 2026.
We’re also making steady progress on several important projects. In partnership with the City of Bainbridge Island, we’re developing our Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan to help identify where and when accessibility improvements are needed. Phase 1—our initial assessment—is now complete, and we’re moving into Phase 2, which focuses on completing a full inventory and prioritizing improvements to make our parks and facilities more accessible to all.
At the Aquatic Center, Phase 2 of the Ray Williamson Pool renovation is currently out to bid, with construction expected to begin this spring. This project upgrades critical systems, improves safety, and ensures the pool can continue meeting the needs of our growing community. Phase 2 closures are expected to begin in spring 2026 and are projected to last through fall/winter 2026. When complete, these improvements will extend the life of the facility by at least 20 years, keeping it a vital community resource for years to come. Also on the horizon: a new restroom at Battle Point Park, the Battle Point Park pickleball court conversion bringing the dedicated pickleball court count to 12 courts, ready by spring, and exciting progress at Pritchard Park, where the Bainbridge Island Japanese American Exclusion Memorial Association is working toward a new interpretive center for the National Park site.
As we move through the colder months, please remember to stay connected for updates on the pool, BIRC, and recreation activities during periods of inclement weather. If we need to adjust services due to power outages, snow, or other disruptions, updates will be shared through email, our website, and social media.
Thank you for your continued support—and for being such an active part of what makes Bainbridge Island a wonderful place to live, play, and explore.

See you out there,

Dan Hamlin Executive Director
Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District

BIRC Location Fees: Classes and programs held at the Bainbridge Island Recreation Center (BIRC) list member fee. Non-member rates also apply. Beginning in 2026, Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District will no longer accept cash payments.
Contractor classes are programs offered through agreements with independent businesses or instructors who provide specialized instructional services. These contractors are responsible for their own staff, curriculum, insurance, licensing, and compliance with any Park District requirements. In this catalog, contractor-led classes are clearly marked with “CONTRACTOR” at the end of the class description.
Program Discounts: The Park District partners with Helpline House to make participation in our programs accessible to residents with limited resources. Full or partial fee scholarships are available for most Park District recreation activities, programs and memberships for qualified families and individuals. To apply, contact Helpline House at 206-842-7621.
IFS Waiver Assistance Program: Developmental Disabilities Administration, with assistance from the WA State Department of Social and Health Services, offers Individual and Family Services (IFS) Basic Plus or Core Waivers for individuals who require waiver services to remain in the family home. While the Park District does not contract directly with the state for these waivers, we have established a program within the same parameters.
For either assistance program, please give at least two weeks’ advance notice to the case manager so they can process the request before registration. Most programs take one to two weeks, depending on the program or activity.
The Park District strives to provide opportunities for people of all abilities to participate and interact in recreational activities with dignity. To that end, the Park District seeks to make reasonable accommodations to its policies, procedures, and programs to assist individuals with special needs in participating in Park District activities, programs, and services. Although the Park District will make every reasonable effort to meet specific needs, unfortunately, not all accommodation requests can be granted. The Park District evaluates each request on a case-by-case basis.
• Register for the classes or activities in which you wish to participate. Please ensure that you meet the program requirements to register for the activity. For example, you are the appropriate age and meet the prerequisites.
• During registration, please select, “yes” when asked, does the individual participating in the activity request an accommodation(s); if yes is selected, a Park District staff member will reach out directly for more information. Those requesting an accommodation can also reach out to info@biparks.org to request an accommodation. The Park District requests two weeks’ notice before the first activity date to determine whether reasonable accommodation is possible.

We’ll learn about bike safety, and work on our riding skills, but our focus will be on adventure. We’ll spend some time beachcombing, tree-climbing, lake-lounging, and of course, trail-blazing. We’ll learn to navigate with a map and compass, and we’ll use our sense of direction and curiosity to guide our rides. By the end of the week, we’ll all have a much better sense of place; we’ll know some secret shortcuts, and we’ll be familiar with the paths-less-traveled. Fort Ward Park
