Dave Mercer, Sheridan Fabrications The kitchen worktops industry is not usually renowned for its fast pace and technological trends, but like any other sector there is a steady pulse of research and development behind the scenes. We speak to Dave Mercer to discuss three new materials Sheridan Fabrications are bringing to market in 2019. 

Can you tell us more? Yes, of course, Solid Grade Laminates have been used in commercial sectors for a number of years now but have only recently entered the domestic market. Created from celluloid fibres bound together with Phelonic resin, Solid Grade Laminate (also known as Compact Laminate) is a dense, highly durable surface which is completely impermeable to water and highly resistant to abrasion & staining.

It sounds like an ideal product so is this aimed at the top-end of the market? Surprisingly no, it’s aimed at economy to mid-range renovators and also for commercial washrooms & kitchens.

What does it look like? Apollo Compact comes in a slim-line 12.5mm profile with a consistent black core throughout. As a two sided worktop, each end comes with embedded designs in one of our two introductory styles, Golden Campino & Piazza, with three more styles due in February 2019.

And what are the key benefits? Its highly accessible and versatile as it can create complex curved designs on-site thanks to the slimline 12.5mm profile and consistent black core. Also, its high flexural strength & availability of modular blanks makes it logistically ideal. Basically, it's a great value product with many of the traits of higher end worktop materials.

Tell us about Sheridan’s second new material, what its name? Apollo Recycled Glass

What’s it made from? 70% Glass, 20% Quartz & 10% Binding Resin

What does that mean exactly? It means that Apollo Recycled Glass is sustainably sourced, and combines the strength of quartz with the translucency of glass. As a man-made composite, it has around 4-5 times the flexural strength of Granite, is highly 

consistent in its finish, and is resistant to heat and abrasion.

Who is it targeted at? All domestic and commercial uses

What does it look like? Aesthetically, the worktops are beautiful and must be seen in person to be fully appreciated. Translucent shards on the surface peer into the glistening powdered glass fragments beneath for a finish rich in depth and character.

And its key Benefits? Its hygienic non-porous surface requires little maintenance and its unique appearance which is inimitable by other traditional worktops. Importantly, its sustainably sourced from recycled materials and will appeal to those who are conscious about ‘green issues.’ What is your final new product? Apollo Ceramicá

And is it manufactured as a composite? No, not at all, it’s made from 100% natural stone minerals

Tell us more? Ceramicá is made in a way which emulates the natural formation of Granite and Quartzite, through intense heat and pressure. The specially selected blend of minerals and highly controlled manufacturing techniques employed result in a superior engineered stone which is incredibly durable and resistant to daily wear.

Who is it for? High-end domestic & commercial projects. What does it look like? The composition of Apollo Ceramicá means it is available in a range of natural and consistent tones; each of which can be chosen in a Glossy, Satin or Honed finish. High-end variants can also be chosen in neutral marbled styles for an executive feel.

What are its benefits? It’s incredibly durable, resistant to heat, impact, abrasion, staining & UV, and of course its made from all natural recyclable materials. It has beautiful luxury finishes in classic colours & and styles.
