THIS MONTH..

Do you know a child who has Cerebral Palsy or other neurological disorder? The Rainbow Centre’s Early Intervention Group has places available as our 3 year olds have moved up to our Nursery Group; we also have places in our Saturday Club for children who are attending their main school during the week. The children’s sessions improve the quality of life for children with Cerebral Palsy, developmental delays and motor learning difficulties through Conductive Education working in partnership with the whole family.

ime is the most valuable thing a man can spend…

... said Theophrastus. I’m sure I’ve said previously that we don’t watch TV much but last night I flicked on an old favourite, Holby City whilst I was winding down after a little evening run. The storyline was covering the end of life of one of the young doctors who had recently discovered he had skin cancer with secondaries that were incurable. Apart from the fact that he was leaving behind his new wife, close colleagues, amazing work and of course he was far too young, what struck me most was the piece just before he lost his life. He was exclaiming, with passion, how totally free his predicament had suddenly made him feel. Knowing that he was nearing the end of his days actually allowed him to live in a way that he chose and not for anyone else. It gave him the opportunity to “selfishly” make choices about how he wanted to spend his time and with whom. Whilst he never made it on the expensive holiday he had booked on his smartphone, he died with a feeling that perhaps we should all have on a day to day basis. One where we feel able to choose how to spend our time, and during that time to choose how we feel. We get 86400 seconds in every day. We never get them back. But if we’re lucky we get the same amount “deposited” in our time bank every morning to spend just as we choose. How will you choose to spend yours today? Until next month, Much love

St Faith’s Community

Lee Festival of the Arts…. Lee Festival of the Arts is a joint collaboration between The Bookshop, Lee Residents’ Association, St Faith’s church, Lee Players, Lee Art Group, Lowry Art Group, Lee Choral Society and volunteers from the town’s residents and businesses. This will be the first festival of its kind in Lee. Most of the action will take place in and around the town and the church and since there were no photographs of previous festivals I decided that a photo linking the town and the church might fit the occasion, hence a photo of the signpost. The festival, a celebration of the artistic skills in our locality, will run from Friday July 1st – Saturday July 9th and will include concerts, demonstrations, drama, dances, exhibitions and more. The events will take place at various locations throughout the town. As in most towns and villages, Lee-on-the Solent has always had its share of local talent and the festival will

In house chat

When those eager buyers book in to view your home, it’s important the right first impression is created. Nothing new there, right? Well, not many people are aware that buyers have been known to decide on their choice of home as quickly as fifteen seconds of walking through the front door! So here’s how to create the right first impression. Tip One: From the moment your buyer pulls up to the property ensure the front garden, pathways, borders and exterior of the house are well maintained and presentable. You want to make sure the potential buyer is still confident that they made the right choice to view.

Tip Two: What you think may be an obvious tip is the Hallway. However, I still see sellers using it as a dumping ground

MY TOP PROPERTY PRESENTATION TIPS

for coats, shoes and bags, and why not, that’s what it’s for! However, when you’re selling your home a clean, open hallway is extremely inviting and piques the buyers interest further. Use light colours, tuck shoes and coats away in a cupboard and ensure the stairway is free from obstructions. Tip Three: Decorate and present each room for its intended use. Your study may be used as a junk room for additional storage or perhaps your dining room/area has the kids toys piled along the walls. The way in which we all live in our own homes is our business, of course, however when you place your property for sale you are opening it up to scrutiny and asking a buyer to imagine themselves living there. Give them a helping hand by creating spaces that they can picture themselves using.

Final Tip: Finish the odd jobs and keep it clean. We all do it, avoid the little jobs or we think the broken kitchen handle will fix itself at some point. When you’re selling your home it’s a good idea to eliminate any reasons for your potential buyer to knock the price down. Get the little jobs finished and show your potential buyers how well maintained and cared for the property is.

Food and Drink

As summer approaches, you may find yourself wishing to utilise the outdoor barbecue. This recipe offers you the option to either use this for a BBQ or to cook inside and serve with your choice of vegetables. Ingredients

Equipment: Barbecue or griddle pan

1 lemon (juice and zest) 2tbsp soft light brown sugar 125ml olive oil 8tbsp balsamic vinegar 2 garlic cloves (crushed) 4tbsp mint (chopped) 400g half boneless leg of lamb

Method: To make the marinade mix together the lemon juice and zest with the sugar, olive oil and balsamic vinegar and add seasoning. Stir until the sugar has dissolved and then mix in the mint and garlic. Lay the meat in a deep tray. Pour in half the marinade over the top of the meat and turn it over to coat it on both sides. Put the rest of the marinade to one side to use as dressing later. Then, cover with cling film and choose to leave it for 1 hour or alternatively overnight in the fridge. After, remove the lamb from the fridge, shake off any excess marinade back into the tray before inserting a skewer that goes from one corner to the opposite. Do this again with another skewer but in the opposite direction. You can either cook the lamb on a barbecue or a griddle pan and cook on a medium heat. Cook for between 15-20 minutes. Make sure to turn the lamb frequently until pink or cook for longer depending on your preference. Once you have finished, let the lamb rest for 10 minutes and remove the skewers. Serve with your choice of vegetables and pour over the rest of the marinade.
