Smalalltalk Sm ltalk f you do not change direction, you may end up where you are heading” Said Lao Tzu, an ancient Chinese philosopher.

And of course, in typical ‘him and her’ style, lots has changed this month. Maybe it was all the full moons we’ve been having, or the feeling of spring and fresh starts over Easter but there have been lots of talk and planning over the last few weeks both at home and work that have resulted in us all ending up in a state of perturbation. Sean wrote recently about his thoughts which were: “to grow strong we need pressure … Ilya Prigegine won the Nobel Science prize for his work on the subject he called Perturbation. The boiling water example; when pressure is applied (heat) we keep on going until we feel ourselves pushed to the limit (simmering). At this point you are perturbed and you have one of two choices - stay under pressure (on the stove), or get out and relax again (off the stove). Most run from any pressure and therefore never grow. If you stay in the pressure, which is good, you will perturb more and more until in a split second you break through (boil). When you do POP through you will release energy E-MOTION, energy in motion (steam) and it could be tears, laughter, anger etc. With negative or downward pressure, the whole team blows out and it’s not good, Positive or goal stretching pressure from the top, eventually growth will happen..... “ So here we are, a bit like a boiling pot on the stove, bubbling away. A few things have boiled over and others are still in there, rabbit like, waiting to be stewed and then savoured. And some of our bubbles have floated to the top and sailed away. One of these was Janet, our saleslady, who has settled into new pastures at the Directory Group (01730 260746) in Petersfield. She’ll have a ball there, we feel sure, so do get in touch with her if you have any advertising needs in the Emsworth to Alresford area. Until next month, Much love

Food and Drink

If you’re struggling for a unique but simple recipe for either a dinner party or just a nice evening in, this is perfect. You can add garnish of your own or even any leftover basil to the finished dish for serving.

Ingredients for 4 servings

3 tbsp olive oil 5 rashers of bacon 3 large boneless chicken thighs 1 clove of garlic 300ml double cream Pinch of Salt Pinch of freshly ground black pepper Fresh basil (a handful) 450g farfalle pasta 200g cheddar cheese (grated)

12

Equipment: Large pan, frying pan Method: In a large pan, cook the pasta according to the packet instructions, adding a pinch of salt to the water. While the pasta cooks, heat the olive oil in a frying pan. Cut the chicken into strips and the bacon into small squares before adding to the pan. Cook for 3-4 minutes, until the chicken is golden brown. Crush the garlic clove and add to the frying pan with the chicken and bacon. Cook for a further minute. Season with salt and freshly ground pepper, then add the cream and warm through. Drain the cooked pasta before adding the creamy mixture into the large pan. Before serving, tear up the fresh basil and add to the mixture along with the grated cheese. Add some garnish for a finished look and enjoy!

Community HELLO FROM HOLY ROOD PARISH OFFICE As I arrive at the office at 9am the phone is ringing. It’s a parishioner asking, rather nervously, about having their new baby Christened. ‘We’re not sure what we have to do – and does the church charge for Christenings?’ I explain that all Christenings (or baptisms) take place during the regular Sunday morning services, that there is no charge, and that the church is delighted to welcome all families and to share in the joy of the occasion with them. I switch on the computer and check emails. There is an enquiry about booking the church centre for a 5 year old’s birthday party, and another from a lady asking what social groups meet at the church that her elderly mum, recently bereaved, might come to for friendship and to encourage her to start socialising again. The phone rings again and this time it’s one of the local funeral directors wanting to book St Edmund’s Church for the funeral service of a Stubbington resident. We check dates and see which

minister is available to take the service and meet the bereaved family. The minister will then spend time with the relatives, talking about their loved one and deciding what they would like in the service - but it all starts with or not you normally come to Holy Rood or St Edmund’s. that phone call to the church office. The office is situated in the I have been parish administrator church centre which is attached to the back of Holy Rood church, for Holy Rood and St Edmund’s (Crofton Old Church) churches for and is open to callers from 9am 20 years, which means I am first to 1pm and from 2pm to 4.30pm. The centre itself is always busy point of contact for all church enquiries, and it’s part of my job with the pre-school, toddler groups, lunch clubs, coffee to make sure people know that mornings, and meetings of all the parish church exists for kinds going on most of the time, everyone - not just for regular so there is always quite a buzz churchgoers. Many people feel awkward about approaching the about the place which I love. Why not pop in some time and church to ask for weddings, say hello – the church is always baptisms and funerals because open too during office hours, if they don’t normally come to Sunday services, but the purpose you want to sit quietly for a while or wander round and enjoy the of the parish church is to be a peace and beauty of the building. Christian presence in the There are services at both Holy community seven days a week not just on Sundays – and you are Rood and St Edmund’s every Sunday, and so much else going welcome to marry, have your on. Visit children baptised, or have a funeral service in church whether www.croftonparish.org.uk for details of all the services, groups and events, or give me a ring at the office on 01329 661154, or email office@croftonparish.org.uk to ask anything. ABSOLUTE SCRUTINY: QUIKDRI TRACKSUIT ÂŁ110 We were approached by the designer and owner of QuikDri during the summer of 2015. A local lady based in Fareham, she came up with the concept of a garment which could be used to enable parents to get their kids in and out of a swimming pool with minimum fuss and onto breakfast and school. The idea is simple: a garment that is a towel on the inside with a waterproof outer fabric that has full length heavy duty zips on the arms and legs to enable easy access. Once worn, the wearer simply gets in the car and can be whisked away. Absolute Running trialled these during our summer open water swim sessions but the QuikDri was up against well established rivals in Dryrobe and struggled to make headway with triathletes. We felt however that the suit was worth sticking with. Having used one ourselves we have to say that you look less out of place walking around in a 'track

suit' and by the time we had driven the mile and a half home we were both dry and very warm. When used at local swimming pools however, it really comes into its own. However cold and inclement the weather, QuikDri and flip flops are all that's required. No faffing with towels etc. In and out of the building in double quick time and away. Lots of different colour combo's available and easily personalised for team use. The QuikDri tracksuit is expensive at over ÂŁ100 but IS heavy duty and well made. If swimming is your thing indoor or outdoor- this would be an investment worth making. Samples can be seen at Absolute Running in Stoke Road, Gosport or by contacting QuikDri direct from their website.

REMEMBER! At Absolute Running we are all about community, so pop in for a chat

Crofton Lions “Festival of St.George” There are more than 50 million people in this country. They are of many nationalities, come from various backgrounds, and practice different beliefs and family traditions; however, they share one important factor in common: England is their home.

23rd April Festival of St George's, Crofton Lions Stubbington Village 10-4pm

St. George's Day is so important because it is the one day of the year when the whole nation can unite in celebration of this great country: Its past, present and future; its countryside, towns and villages; and, most importantly, the people who live in this land. People who live in a caring, tolerant and democratic society, who enjoy freedom of worship and freedom of speech. People who have a great deal to celebrate. Crofton Lions Club invite you to celebrate with them at their “Festival of St. George” which will include Her Majesty's Birthday, on the 21st April, A Village Fayre on St.George's Day, 23rd April with St.George arriving on Horseback and welcomed by the Mayor and Mayoress of Fareham.

They invite you to “Enjoy yourselves on St.George’s Day, Enjoy England every day!

So Ladies and Gentlemen, He will be accompanied by local Sea and Air Cadet Units including the Raise your glasses! T.S.Tenacity Cadet Band, and the day The toast is…… will include Hampshire Regency “Elizabeth, England and St. Dancers, Morris Dancers, Jonathan the Jester, Deeds of Arms Knights, George!” Town Criers and, representing the Dragon, Tai Chi performers. A (Article supplied by Reg Norton on special “English Menu” is being behalf of the Crofton Lions). provided in the local Pubs, and we hope to have a cavalcade of Mini’s drive through the village on Sunday 24th. All of this indicates that this Crofton Lions event has become a tradition in Stubbington.
